NICK BLACKWELL is in a “stable condition” in hospital after being injured during a sparring session earlier this week.

But it emerged last night that his love of boxing had lured him to lace up his gloves again — with disastrous consequences.

Robert Smith, general secretary of the BBBofC, told SunSport: “I understand he was sparring, fell ill, was taken to hospital and then underwent a procedure.

“I don’t know exactly what the procedure was, other than the fact they tried to relieve pressure on the brain and he’s now in a stable condition. That’s all I know.”

He added: "I'm sickened by it. It's a very tough sport and the doctors here did a wonderful job to save his life. The doctors at hospital saved his life and kept him going.

"He made remarkable recovery and for somebody to go and do what he's done, for what I thought was a very sensible young man, is just beyond belief."

I hope he is OK, he should not go anywhere near a gym if he feels tempted to get in the ring even as sparring. He has had a head trauma and another blow could kill him.

Let's just hope he pulls through n doesn't try sparring another pro boxer again.I'd reckon a guy like this would take his chances defending his family against joe six pack. Average person can't hit a decent pro boxer in a fight anyway and certainly can't take being hit by one.

Watched a programme about killer punches. It only take one blow and a lot of it is how they land/impact on the floor. Very sad cases which end up as manslaughter cases.

Blackwell had a second chance of LIFE simple and to go into a ring to spar again, a few months after being at death's door is fucking madness.
What possessed him to do such a stupid thing.
A half decent boxer puts most idiots to sleep he will be able to defend himself and his family if needs must.
But sparring in a ring taking head punches is a no no shit .

Been in a lot of brawls and jump in gang initiations in your day huh? LolMost fights end in less than a minute especially if someone knows how to use their fists and the other guy doesn't.

Just read that he is no longer being sedated but he's yet to wake up.

I just hope that this will be enough of an eye opener to keep him away for good now.
