Strange how Marquez knocking out Pac was a lucky punch or fluke, but nothing lucky about martinez knocking out Williams.

Marquez was looking for that counter right, as PAC was coming in, all fight. I am a PAC fan, but that knockout was no fluke.

No disrespect to Pavlik, as I'm sure he was a better fighter than me, but I never thought he was truly elite.

He was heavy handed and quite exciting to watch - definitely world class for a very short period of time. However, his prime was too short and h never really dominated in the way a genuine elite boxer does.

its a shame that his out of the ring problems cut his career short, but the fact is that they did so his career ended up slightly disappointing. Sure, he beat Hopkins (but I never thought that Hopkins was the all-time great that everybody seems to think he was, and h didn't really face a host of other world class fighters.

A little bit of e can't help thinking that he got a lot more attention because he was a white American, at a time when there were comparatively few white Americans at the top of the sport.

It was a bad move and mis-calculation by his team to move up and face Hopkins. I thought from the beginning that Hopkins' style was all wrong for him.

Very bad move and Pavlik apparently had the flu before the fight too. Wasn't himself that night at all and losing that changed him for the worse psychologically. He never really recovered or looked as good as he had before.

I heard a rumor that Pavlik may be considering a return to the ring.

He wouldn’t be relevant at this point. Too old and too many years away.

He was on Joe Rogans podcast a while ago and talked about possibly fighting again. Seemed like a pretty solid and grounded guy, he’s packed on a tonne of muscle. Sounded more like he was considering just having another fight, as opposed to making a comeback, and he was forthright about the risk and being unsure. His problems outside of the ring were likely way overblown and wouldn’t be worth mentioning if he wasn’t a famous guy.

I thought Pavlik had severe enough drinking issues that he could not box at the highest level.

Maybe he did, but they don’t have to be very severe by anyone else’s standards. I haven’t been able to box at the highest level for years

I agree, but it seems an all too familiar pattern.

He chose the booze. He still looks boozy, no matter what he says. He did an interview with Joe Rogan a short while back.
