Default Sonny Liston vs Anthony Joshua

How would this matchup go? Liston was a big dude for his time, but looked a bit smaller than Cassius Clay, who was really the next generation ONE SIZE UP to 6' 3". People don't realize it but Ali was a really BIG DUDE.

Now Liston would fight 6' 7" AJ. What do y'all reckon would be the outcome of this?

Liston had a piston jab and wrecked most things he hit.

    AJ has size and power.

AJ is getting better with more experience and not the finished article so difficult to say but go with Liston at this point.

I was thinking the same but only have the Liston/Cleveland Williams fight to go by for Liston fighting someone much bigger. He got hit a few times but he took Big Cat out in 4 RDS. This was before Big Cat was shot 5 times in the abdomen

Sonny Liston is one of those contenders everyone took the nearest subway, bus,or taxi to avoid setting up a fight with. He could bang and knock you out with a jab. He was also too well associated with organized crime and loved to fight with cops in his spare time. He always had a jail cell reserved in his name. Sonny had a lethal hook and he knew how to cut the ring off and and iron chin to boot. He wasn't fast but he had great balance and always in a good fighting position and he had one quality which most fighters today lack, the ability to follow instructions and adapt. Anthony Joshua is a large version of Sonny Liston but lacks Sonny's killer instinct. Between the two latest fights he has shown a great ability to learn adapt and change tactics. He has good whiskers and a desire to win. He has a tendency to forget he is tall and should work on his posture avoiding taking unnecessary point robbing shots in the future. He should not stop jabbing like he did with Mr. Steel-hammer a few times during his defense. If the two ever met size and speed would cause havoc for Sonny but if Sonny went exclusively to the body and banged the arms like Marciano, a good supply of Tylenol or lineament for pain is in order for Joshua. Outstanding traits are their jabs and hooks but if Sonny isn't careful he might have to petition for a ladder to be able to reach Joshua. If it were not for height and weight *I would have said Sonny by decision.

I think Joshua is stylistically a lot like Ol' Stoneface.

Massive guys (Liston was huge for his time, a giant compressed into 6'2" body. If he had been born in 1990 he would have been a 6'8" behemoth), heavy piston jabs, good chins, heavy heavy hands and a total confidence in their own power.

I think Sonny had a better chin than AJ and he didn't gas out as quickly. Funnily, I thought Joshua really tired against Wlad but his youth baled him out. It was as if he couldn't sustain high anaerobic activity for a sustained period, but his fitness allowed him to recuperate quite fast. Wierd.

Sonny was vastly more experienced at fighting at 27.

You can't really objectively compare guys from different eras, but if AJ knocked over Sonnys pint in a bar, he had better apologise really quickly.

Well based on that nugget of information, I'll take Brock's bet and I'll go for AJ. Liston has been inactive for too long.

Son and his whole era looks very basic and flawed as the video shows, which clearly guys never have seen other era's in full apparently, or don't compare as I have here, what was the basis for ever picking Son when he never even fought guys as advanced as the even the no names who were way more advanced in the 80s? see how it doesn't make any sense picking him people online aren't very sane ,

I just never have understood picking obviously very outdated people as if the people they fought were as advanced when they clearly weren't, as if video doesn't exist showing they weren't as advanced, very odd

It's fact liston best win was a lhw floyd, I could've put a video of basically a lhw mercer faced who was way more advanced than Floyd was and how Mercer destroyed him way easier than Liston did Floyd, see how this doesn't make any sense as I said at all, people clearly pick son from legend status alone, he never fought guys as advanced as even the average guy in 80s-90s, let alone mid carders the 90s even were more advanced than 80s-than early 00s advanced alot

Which Mercer are you talking about?
