    Default Guitar

My son wants to get a guitar and there are different types classical, acoustic, electric.

He has never held a guitar before but wants to learn.

He will need lessons which is another cost.

We have no music talent or interest in the family.

    Any advice.

I'm forever stopping and starting with the guitar Master. I like this guy https://www.andyguitar.co.uk/ He does a series of ten minute lessons after which you've got a few good songs to play along to. Quick, achievable results.

Get a second had acoustic guitar or a cheapy one from Argos or summat. If the bug bites and he wants to take it further invest in a better quality one.

Same with the lessons too. I dont know how old your boy is but I'd say learn a few chords online, learn a song or two and if you want to move on to the personal touch get a teacher.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Iv'e always wanted to learn to play just never bothered too because i can't sing, if i could sing i'd have mastered the guitar years ago and been the frontman for a rock/indie band.

People say DJ's who learned their craft the proper way (beat matching Vinyl record analogue style - not the compterised auto beat matching fakes these days) get the hang of the Guitar fairly quickly because they are so used to using pitch control

Do it master. I started playing Bass when I was very young. Became quite good even though it didn't come naturally to me. I would practice constantly. Probably either acoustic or electric six string guitar would be a good starting point, if he catches the bug, he will play quite often, if not the guitar will sit in its case collecting dust. Since so many kids fail to follow through the secondary market is a place you can get a decent deal on a guitar. Get something somewhat decent, the beginners guitars can be so uncomfortable to play they don't encourage practice. When I say beginners I mean the cheap shit

My son got a hand me down guitar but said it was too small and he wanted an electric.

So I am looking to see what is suitable and good value for money.

His friend takes lessons and I think that he wants to do the same.

Good for him. He probably won't be in to it but a good idea would be an electric/acoustic it's a acoustic guitar with a pick up that allows you to plug in. Ovation makes a good one. It would give him the option of playing plugged or unplugged but it won't be that heavy electric sound he is probably seeking. I hope he does well, I would say it's a good clean positive thing for a kid plus it makes your mind work in ways not typical but it can also lead to heavy drug use, alcohol and loose women. On second thought just have the little fellow stay home and play video games.

Did not know about electric/acoustic guitar. Will check it out.

Music is good for exercising the mind and thinking in a different way than he would usually. He like science and maths so that may help.

I do not wanting him using drugs for his free thinking.
