One judge gave Alvarez every round last time. Vegas judges get their paydays from the State Athletic Commission who pick judges they know will judge fights the way they want them judged. So really this is up to Vegas and the various powerbrokers who decide these things. What they want is Alvarez headlining May/September events for years to come because there's literally nobody else around on the horizon who could do the job. Maybe they think Alvarez could actually be burnished by a loss and then a win in the trilogy fight and can then go on to sell more big events. Maybe they think Golovkin is on the slide and Alvarez will make the third fight competitive enough that they can give him the win.

Or maybe they just think fuck it, if Alvarez is on his feet at the end of the twelfth he gets the decision. It's all down to a bunch of cold calculations about money and future revenue streams, nothing to do with who is the better fighter.

Canelo might be Golden Boy's Golden Child, but he's not getting any younger, he's not getting any bigger (unless of course that Mexican beef diet kicks in again), and he's not getting any better. He's hit his peak value it's been downhill since Floyd beat and beat him EASILY.


GGG is no longer at the peak of his powers but he's not going to lose to Canelo and if he did he wouldn't have any big money fights left although Floyd might go for him then and only then.

AC/DC lost their singer, their drummer, Malcolm Young died and the bass player retired but if Angus decides he wants to play again promoters will be banging his door down with lorryloads of cash to sign him and four scrubs up for a stadium tour. It doesn't matter what kind of state the band is in, people still want to see them.

Professional boxing is just another part of showbusiness like AC/DC or Beyonce or monster trucks, whatever you can sell tickets and hotel rooms and food and drink and so on to get people to come and see. It doesn't matter how good Alvarez is, his boxing ability or whether he's already past his best have nothing to do with it. As long as Alvarez is doing the numbers he's going to be the house fighter in Vegas. If somebody more bums on seats/PPVable comes along at 160 then that guy would be the house fighter and get the dodgy decision over the ginger. As long as Alvarez remains a viable attraction they're going to nurse him along. The Vegas casino owners aren't boxing fans, they're money fans. Anybody who can sell out an event they put on is going to get all the help they can give them.

So all arguments here are on the same side.

Everyone agrees that Ginger IS the cash cow of choice these days... and has been for awhile. Whether he wins or loses..... whether he cheats or doesn't..... it doesn't matter WHAT Ginger does, his status as cash cow is untouchable. There's another thread on this, I think. But it should hardly be a surprise to anyone. Ginger was groomed for this since Day One. Beginning with the fattened record (not on Clenbuterol, but on tomato cans in Mexico). As he was dispatching bartenders and cab drivers, the fan adoration was beginning. He's got the red-headed, boyish good looks, so why not. Captain Fishnets identified with him, having been a matinee idol type himself. And so began the relationship, with none other than JCC himself once criticizing Ginger as a fabricated phenomenon. Since he was coming up I called it..... saying he was born with a silver spoon. Once he got to 40+ fights of course the pressure began for him to face credible opposition, till he was finally gifted a fight against Floyd. We all know how that played out..... a boring shutout. Besides that, he preyed on undersized and/or old fighters..... and here we are today. Ginger can do no wrong, and his fanatical throngs of fans will follow him wherever he goes.... sort of like the boxing version of Elvis. Elvis became fat and drugged out... and he still had his loyal fans. But at least Elvis was real at one time. That would be the difference right there. Yeah..... Vegas LOVES Ginger. They'll miss him when he's gone. Then they'll do what they always do..... find another cash cow to take his place.
