Default Once a thread goes South, can it ever recover?

Some threads start innocently enough... and then descend into a spiral of mud-slinging.

Sometimes the thread title and OP has nothing to do with the subject that triggers the carnage that ensues... it just happens.

I've got an experiment going on in another thread involving a lily-white question.

The hypothesis for this experiment is that 99% of all threads started in the non-boxing boards eventually devolve into mud-slinging chaos within the first 5 pages of the thread.

But once a thread begins its death-spiral, can it recover its civility and get back on topic?

THAT... my friends, is the question posed in this poll.

Yes it can because we are all grown up and can move on without any hurt feelings.

Well some of us mature people can.

I don't think it is always just a case of descending into mud slinging but also being hijacked and derailed to talk about something else entirely or returning to the same old tired agenda driven theme. Don't get me wrong, going off on a tangent has produced some classics over the years but the current vogue for going down the same rabbit holes is only ever going to come up with leporine shite.

Good point. Seems we can make a thread about the weather and it'll morph into a thread about one of our recently favorite topics.

Yes, because once it goes far enough south it reaches Antarctica, and we aren’t allowed to fly there.
