Default 2018 Oscars: who should win?

    The nominations are here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/91st_Academy_Awards

My choice of the three Best Picture nominees I've seen would be Black Panther, it's at least entertaining unlike the other two.

Most best picture winners are never entertaining - look at the list of winners over the past 20 years and tell me how many you actually really enjoyed. Very few for me. Certainly not on ones I’d watch again. I’m amazed looking back that return of the king actually won.

To win in most cases you have to be in an arty farty type film or a bit weird.

Of the best picture nominees so far I've only seen Black KkKlansman so can't really comment.
As for that film, it was decent, but quite forgettable despite the quite mad premise. I was surprised it was nominated.

    Black Panther

I was listening to Richard E Grant on radio 5 who is nominated as best supporting actor and Can You Ever Forgive Me? sounds good.

Of the last 20 Best Picture winners (not seen them all) I've enjoyed -

    12 Years A Slave
    Argo
    The King's Speech
No Country For Old Men (Great film)
    The Departed (Great film)
    Crash
    Million Dollar Baby
    A Beautiful Mind
    Gladiator
    American Beauty

Others in there were decent too but not my thing - Slumdog Millionaire for eg. Also some in there I haven't seen but sound good - The Hurt Locker for eg.

Of the most recent 4 Birdman, Spotlight, Moonlight and The Shape of Water I've only seen The Shape of Water. It was ok. The weirdness doesn't put me off but I think the reception for it was a bit 'Emperor's New Clothes'.

Of all those there’s only Gladiator I’d watch again - which I always do.

I’ll admit some of those are ok. Nothing more. Shape of water was plain weird. Moonlight boring. Spotlight just ok. And Birdman I’m yet to speak to anyone who enjoyed it so can’t bring myself to watch it.

Hoped Stallone might get a nomination again. Gutted for him when he didn’t win for Creed

Not that great of choices. I've only seen 3 of the films nominated, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and A star is born.

    I'm thinking Bohemian Rhapsody.
