Possibly happened when Bruce Seldon decided to make it his nickname? Or Trump got ahead of his creditors. NY is on the comeback trail though

Trump rode the pony and worked to build it up. He and King were a power duo. Then half the casinos went bust, recession and surrounding gaming jurisdictions expanded with casinos opening. But it's on a major rebound now and legalized sports betting helps. Shame there is another Tyson like phenom to roam the Boardwalk but another star attraction will emerge with more exposure. I remember the final card when MSG threw in the towel too and now they're back.

It doesn't help that promoters and fighters have to pay state taxes in Atlantic City and not in Vegas. It allows the Vegas casinos an edge when it comes to the numbers. Other than Tyson and Gatti they haven't had anybody become a massive attraction that outweighs the Vegas money.

The Atlantic City strip itself is dying. If we wanted to gamble back in the day, or see a fight etc Atalantic city was the one of the few areas around several states where gambling was legal. now we have two in my state which once supplied traffic to the boardwalk, and now we are building a third while our neighboring state put up one last year. My wife and I went a couple times, last was like four years ago. It looks pretty ratty or did four years ago. So on the east coast us Atlantic City was at one time the only legal option for betting, now it’s common to have at least one on every Indian reservation in the area. People once used my state as a pathway to Atlantic City now along that route they have three or four major casinos to choose from

Shame a revival effort isn't more of a unified front with NY or Philly. Talk about rivals . Geographically Vegas benefits with being a draw to 'go through', it's surrounded where as Jersey boardwalk is a basic final destination. Truth about draws and taxes. Nevada also has a few other things that are legal now. They just don't have a huge talent to build up and if any most are pulled to bigger markets.

When Trumps hotel and casino went bankrupt, that turbo-charged the downfall of boxing in AC. Everything Trump touched (except Melania) tuned to feces.
