The Blue Horizon was back in business this past Friday as promoter Veronca Michaels and Don Elbaum put together one of the best cards in recent memory at Philly's legendary fight house. The six bout card was led by up and comer Max Alexander who made the jump to co-main event status and turned in a performance that tosses his name into the debate of the best light heavyweight on the Philly circuit. Headliner Terrance Cauthen took a slight step up in competition against the hard hitting Joshua Onyango and flashed the speed that makes him one of the toughest men in the business to catch on camera. Ringside Boxing Report: Tonto Tontchev - Dean Phillips

Yesterday at London's York Hall, the comeback trail of Welsh lightweight Dean Phillips hit an unexpected obstacle in the form of ex-European Super Featherweight Champion Tontcho Tontchev's left fist. In front of a packed house, Phillips never recovered and was knocked out in the first round on a well supported Maloney promotions bill.

Phillips had been going strong in the early seconds of the round, dictating the pace of the fight and forcing Tontchev to use his boxing skills. However, those skills came to fruition as Phillips swung a left hook to the body. Simultaneously Tontchev launched his own left hook which met the Welshman's chin with painful accuracy and the combined power of the two punches caused Phillips' head to swivel violently on its axis. Phillips' body seemed to stiffen and straighten slightly, as he fell backwards to the mat like a tree at the hands of a lumberjack. More...

On Friday night, Pugnacious Promotions pulled off another quality fight card in Albany, NY, with a sold out show at the Armory. In attendance were renowned fighters Billy Costello, Livingstone Bramble, Otis Grant, Tony Marshall and Gerry Cooney along with Senators Hugh Farley and Jim Tedesco. The evening started off with a super middleweight bout featuring Brandon Mitchem facing Keith Sonley in a scheduled six round contest. Mitchem, who just made his return to the ring after a two plus year layoff, started out slow in the first until he started to find his rhythm.

Once the second round started, Mitchem shook off his ring rust and dominated Sonley. Mitchem opened a cut over Sonley's eye in the third and kept it his main focus throughout the fight. Mitchem was cut in the fifth by a headbutt that opened a cut under his eye and was deducted a point in the third for a low blow that looked to be more of Sonley's antics to buy time than anything else. Even with the point deduction, the decision was never in doubt as Mitchem won a unanimous decision, 58-55 (twice) and 57-53 on the scorecards. Brandon Mitchem moves to 23-4-1 (8) while Keith Sonley drops to 4-12-6 (1). More...

Ringside Boxing Report: Carl Froch - Dale Westerman

By Don Caputo February 19th, 2006 All Boxing Photos, Boxing Results, Ringside Boxing

Making a rare London appearance, British and Commonwealth Super Middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch overcame a ponderous start to grind down Australian journeyman Dale Westerman in nine tougher than expected rounds at the prestigious York Hall arena in Bethnal Green. Headlining the Hennessy Sports show, screened live on Sky Sports, Nottingham based Froch struggled to find any sort of rhythm in the early going and it was only when his fleshy opponent began to fade that he was able to assert himself and eventually force an unspectacular stoppage.

When referee John Keane called a halt to the action, it was to save a fighter who wasn’t so much being battered as he was plain old knackered. Despite not being seriously hurt, the huffing and puffing Aussie actually looked relieved when the fight was waved off. No doubt he was more than satisfied with his showing up to that point, and appreciated the chance of an early shower. More...

Boston Boxing \”Superbrawl\” Weigh-In

Don't Miss Tonight's NER Promotions Fightcard at The Castle at Park Place In Boston

The weigh-in for tonight's six fight "Superbrawl" in Boston took place in the small basement of Remington's Bar and Grill yesterday. Except for the scale onstage, a stranger wandering in would not have guessed that this was where a boxing weigh-in was to take place, so laid back was the atmosphere in the crowded room. Light middleweight hot prospect Yuri Foreman sat at the bar piano and played classical

music, while lightweight Jorge Teron played on his portable game console and the crowded barroom of fighters, promoters, managers and trainers fell into casual conversation as all waited latecomer super middle Chris Traietti to show up.

The headliner, undefeated middleweight John Duddy, stripped to his underwear and came in at 162lbs even. His opponent, New Haven, CT based Julio Jean, tipped the scales at 164lbs and bowed his head in disappointment. Though Duddy could have taken issue, the magnanimous Irishman assured Jean that his camp would not force the spoiler from Haiti to drop the last pound to make weight. More...

***With Massive Boxing Gallery***

Revenge was in order for last nights HBO PPV mega rematch between super featherweight stars Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales. The relentless power punching “Pacman” was simply not going to be denied, despite the heroic efforts of “El Terrible” Morales. The Filipino phenom wore down the Mexican legend and stopped him under a barrage of punches at 2:33 of the tenth

round. A left cross to the side of Morales' head put him down for the first legitimate knockdown of his career. The always game Morales rose at the count of nine, but there was no way Pacquiao was going to let "El Terrible" off the hook, and bombarded him with punches against the ropes, forcing Morales to the canvas again, and prompting referee Kenny Bayless to wave off the fight.

Boxing fans in attendance at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and pay per viewers around the world were treated to a sequel that easily lived up to its hype. This was simply two of boxing’s best warriors giving everything they had, much to the delight of the 14,618 roaring fans in attendance. More...

This past Saturday night the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV hosted “No Respect”, the much anticipated middleweight championship rematch between Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins. Unfortunately for those in attendance, and particularly, those paying for the fight on PPV at home, there was simply too much respect between the fighters to even surpass the average standards of their first contest. The flow of the bout and the judges scoring of the fight was quite similar to the first one pairing between the two middleweights, a questionable decision win for Jermain Taylor. More...
