In Kirkcaldy, Scotland undefeated Kevin Anderson went into the trenches with one of Ghana's finest and came away with a razor thin split decison victory and the Commonwealth Welterweight title. On a Matchroom promotion, the Tommy Gilmour managed fighter from Buckhaven went to war with beltholder Joshua Okine and it was toe to toe action with very close rounds all the way throught. When the smoke cleared Anderson became the fourth Scottish fighter in history to win the Commonwealth Welterweight crown. Credit goes to both men in a very fast paced fight that was televised live in the UK by Sky Sports.
On the undercard in a scheduled eight round affair, former Commonwealth Super Feather titlist Craig Docherty kept his cool in the face of an all gun blazing strategy from John Mackay. The Glasgow man patiently bided his time behind great defense but unleashed a nice combination in the seventh round that forced the referee to stop the bout with Mackay still on his feet. More...

When you think about the name "Sugar" and the word "boxing", various images pop into your head. Mostly, it's the three Sugars of the generations. You have Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard and last but not least, Sugar Shane Mosley.
Many sports writers have written off Shane because of his four losses, some even saying he should drop the Sugar moniker. Why is that?
Let's look at Shane's accomplishments. He was the Lightweight Champ, the Welterweight Champ and the Undisputed Super Welterweight Champ.
To me, a three weight division champion is deserving of the name "Sugar". But many people have forgotten the accomplishments of Shane and look instead towards his last few performances and are saying that Shane isn't the fighter that he used to be at welterweight and lightweight. Of course, because age gets to us all. But instead of the practic! al, they go to the dramatic and say that Vernon Forrest ruined Shane and turned his "Sugar" sour. This is the same Shane Mosley who after losing to Forrest moved up another weight class and defeated Oscar De La Hoya again and became the Undisputed Super Welterweight Champion. More...

British heavyweight hopeful Scott Gammer takes on former domestic champion Julius Francis tonight at the Showground in Carmarthen, Wales, on a Paul Boyce promotion. While Francis hasn't won a bout in over two years, the 40 year old has been in with the best heavyweights in Europe and should provide the 28 year old from Pembroke with valuable experience. Gammer can ill afford a slip up at this crucial point in his career, as in his most recent outing the undfeated Welshman won a British Heavyweight eliminator by stopping Mark Krence in eight rounds. That title is currently held by hammer fisted brawler Matthew Skelton, who will likely face Danny Williams later this year. Should both Gammer and Skelton make it through these scheduled bouts, a showdown between the two is all but certain.

Light Heavyweight Glen Johnson hits the comeback trail tonight in California as the former IBF, IBO and USBA titlist steps into a boxing ring for the first time since losing a rematch to Antonio Tarver back in June. Johnson will be facing 38 year old southpaw and current USBA beltholder George "Khalid" Jones on the Goosen-Tutor promotion, televised in the US box Fox Sports Net, and at stake will be an offical IBF title eliminator for the number one challenger position. Jones hasn't lost during his previous seven bouts and just may give the 36 year old Johnson a run for his money. For Johnson, this contest is a way to get back into title contention as the winner of this bout will earn the right to meet IBF Champion Clinton Woods.

Undefeated Scottish prospect Kevin Anderson tests his meddle tonight by challenging Commonwealth Welterweight Champion Joshua Okine at the Ice Rink in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Matchroom Sport promotes the card, which also features former Commonwealth Super Feather beltholder Craig Docherty and Sky Sports televises live in the UK. Anderson, the Celtic titlist, has been spotless in 14 pro contests so far in his career but has never faced the likes of the hard as nails Okine. Hailing from the legendary Bukom neighborhood of Accra, Ghana, Okine has won all six of his bouts since losing a welterweight title bout to countryman Ossie Duran, the current Commonwealth Light Middle kingpin, in 2003. The champion is no stranger to Britain, having thoroughly handled British Champion David Barnes this past June on the Hatton - Tszyu undercard in Manchester.

Last night in Hamburg, Germany, WBO Heavyweight Champion Lamon Brewster was trailing well behind on the scorecards after getting thoroughly outboxed by challenger Luan Krasniqi, but was able to canvas the German in the eighth before finishing the job in the ninth round. Krasniqi, the current European Champion, used his superior boxing skills to outbusy the sometimes lethargic Brewster but simply didn't have the stamina to keep up his stick and move strategy. By the seventh round Krasniqi was forced into trading blows with the American, something he studious had avoided for the previous six rounds. Brewster's iron chin and powerful arsenal came in handy in the eighth as the Los Angeles man had to walk through a series of full blooded counters from Krasniqi before wreaking havoc with his own bombs. With the win Brewster is now in line for a unification match with one of the other beltholders at heavyweight after having come through this dangerous trip to Germany.
