Hayemaker Boxing put on a great ‘all-action’ bill last night at the smart Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.
Billed as ‘Mersey Beatdown’ - the fight night was headlined by the vacant British Super Middleweight title clash between Liverpudlians Tony Quigley and Tony Dodson.
Dodson was scheduled to fight Brian Magee, who had to pull out with a back injury although he was ringside for the fight.
Quigley entered the ring to the sounds of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as the Liverpool fans stood with arms held high - swaying and singing to the song made famous by Liverpool's own Gerry and the Pacemaker’. More...

If Eddie Chambers hopes to get a world heavyweight title fight based on his winning performance Friday night against Sam Peter, he should take his own advice as he recalled, “I could have done a lot more tonight, but the jab was working extremely well,” after the bout.
Chambers worked around an effective jab to keep the bigger Peter away, but seldom followed up with a solid right hand, earning a majority decision at the first boxing event to take place at Los Angeles' Nokia Theater.
Peter carried the most weight of any fight in his career and moved forward throughout the bout, landing jabs and straight punches to the chest, but never seriously threatened Chambers.
“Peter was doing a pretty good job countering when I threw my jab,” Chambers said, explaining the lack of the right hand. “I was a little slow in finishing with the right.”
Chambers displayed good hand speed and moved enough to wear out Peter, who had a stalking game plan but didn’t hurt Chambers. Both men appeared in less than ideal shape, Chambers hitting 236 pounds and Peter at 265.
Chambers takes a record of 34-1 (18) to plead his case for a title shot, but nothing compelling from this effort. Peter goes to 30-3, his second loss in a row, after failing to answer the bell against world champion Vitali Klitschko last year. He appeared tired in the late rounds against Chambers. The 26 year old Chambers appeared content to jab and circle, never engaging the bigger Peter and letting his fast hands explode. More...

Last night at Plaza de Toros in Tijuana, Mexico, WBO Super Flyweight Champion Fernando Montiel, 39-2-1 (29), made the successful jump to bantamweight, capturing the interim WBO crown at 118 pounds by knocking out Argentina's Diego Oscar Silva, 24-2-3 (12), in the third round.
Montiel was in control the whole way, canvassing Silva in the second and at the start of the third before finishing the job at 2:24 of the third round.
In a WBC Super Feather title clash, reigning champion Humberto Soto, 47-7-2 (30), was dominant against challenger Antonio Davis, 26-5 (13), dropping the American in the first and twice in the fourth before forcing the bout to be stopped at 2:38 of the fourth frame when Davis could no longer defend himself. Last night there were three good cards in Europe and we kick off this report at Mehrzweckhalle Grossziethen in Shoenefeld, Germany.
European Union Light Middleweight Champion Jimmy Colas, 26-5 (11), was dethroned in his first title defense by Lukas Konecny, 39-3 (19), via majority decision.
Haitian born Frenchman Colas saw a seven bout win streak evaporate as ex-WBO title challenger Konecny of the Czech Republic was the busier and more effective man over the 12 hard fought rounds.
One of the most decorated of all women's boxing champions, Natascha Ragosina, 20-0 (12), kept her WBC Female, WIBF and GBU Super Middleweight titles with a stoppage of Trinidadian southpaw Iva Weston, 12-5 (1), at 1:19 of the sixth round, bringing the one-sided affair to a close.
At the Leisure Centre in Altrincham, England, Matthew Hatton, 36-4-1 (14), won a IBO Welterweight title eliminator by stopping former European Light Welter titlist Ted Bami, 26-5 (13), in the sixth round. More...

There's a good fight card tonight at Plaza De Toros right across the US/Mexico border in Tijuana as the WBO Bantam and WBC Super Feather belts will be up for grabs.
In the main event, longtime WBO Super Flyweight Champ Fernando Montiel, 38-2-1 (28), will try again to make the move up to bantam and contend for the WBO crown at 118 pounds.
The 30 year old Los Mochis man was turned back in his effort to do the same three years ago when defeated on a split decision by Jhonny Gonzalez.
This time, Montiel will tangle with WBO Latino, South American and Argentine Bantam titlist Diego Oscar Silva, 24-1-3 (12), of Buenos Aires. More...

The big action last night was the ten round heavyweight showdown between former WBC Champion Samuel Peter and USBA titlist Eddie Chambers at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, CA.
Coming into the bout a career heavy 265 pounds, Peter obviously wasn't there to try and outbox the far quicker Chambers and early on the "Nigerian Nightmare" used his aggression to push his rival back.
But once Chambers established that he could take the former world champ's best efforts, he began to slowly but surely pick apart his adversary.
Chambers had little difficulty making Peter miss and countered the far heavier man with enough quick single shots to edge the rounds. As the bout dragged on, Peter became tired and reluctant. More...

Two shows last night in the UK with the bigger bill taking place at the Bellahouston Sports Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.
Local hero Ricky Burns was in action as the Commonwealth Super Feather Champ put his title belt at risk against former British Champion Michael Gomez in what had turned into a grudge match complete with pre-fight scrums in the street during the media build up.
While Gomez was at his intimidating best before the fight, it was Burns who was in the driver's seat once the bell rang, peppering the Mancunian with sharp counters off the jab.
At 31 years of age and four years past his prime, Gomez was a shadow of his former self but still managed to test Burns as the Scotsman lost a point for holding in the fifth while attempting to nullify Gomez's inside aggression. More...
