By Boxing Press June 29th, 2010 All Press Releases

Barry McGuigan has called for the Prizefighter Super Middleweights to match the heart and strength of Willie “Big Bang” Casey when the aim to lift the trophy on Wednesday June 30, live on Sky Sports.

Boxing Result: Chavez Jr Outpoints Duddy In San Antonio

By Richard Eberline June 27th, 2010 All Boxing Results

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr continued his campaign at middleweight last night, turning back John Duddy at the famed Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.

Chavez was coming off his only previous appearance at the weight, a ten round points verdict over Troy Rowland that was later declared a no contest due to illegal substance use and it was not a given that the 24 year old could handle the challenge posed by career 160 pounder Duddy.

It didn't take long for the Mexican star to show that he indeed could successfully cope with Duddy's strength advantage by outboxing the New York based Irishman from the first round. More...

Boxing Preview: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs. John Duddy

By Richard Eberline June 26th, 2010 All Boxing Previews

Tonight at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, middleweights Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and John Duddy face off in a WBC title eliminator that also will deliver the WBC silver crown to the winner.

Both Duddy, 29-1 (18), and Chavez Jr, 40-0-1 (30), have attractive records and both boxers sell loads of tickets to massive adoring fans wherever they appear.

They also share another interesting similarity and that is they have each squared off against a long list of less than world class competition, having never shared the ring with a grade A fighter.

At age 24, Chavez has had a load of contests in a hurry and this bout marks just the second time the Mexican has fought at middleweight, coming up from light middle after having turned pro as a super featherweight. More...

Boxing In Britain: Fury Stops McDermott For English Title

By Ricky Jones June 26th, 2010 All Boxing Results

Last night at Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, England, heavyweight Tyson Fury defeated arch-rival John McDermott in a rematch to capture the vacant English title.

The pair met last September at the same venue with Fury pulling out a highly controversial points verdict but this time opponent McDermott did not bring the same level of opposition.

Towering over McDermott by half a foot, the 6 foot 7 inch tall Fury controlled the pace of the bout in the early going behind a long jab that kept his Essex based rival at a distance.

McDermott chose not to get to grips with the younger man as he had done in their initial bout but rather bided his time until the hulking Fury ran out of gas. More...

Boxing In Canada: Jean Pascal vs. Chad Dawson In Montreal August 14

By Jose Espinoza June 24th, 2010 All Boxing Previews

On August, 14, 2010, Montreal will host an epic light heavyweight bout featuring Jean Pascal against American sensation, Chad Dawson. This will be for Pascal, the big break he has been looking for since his one and only defeat against Carl Froch.

We all know that big breaks are few and far between in life. For professional boxers, those breaks are even harder to come by. Jean Pascal was given such an opportunity in 2008, when he travelled to England to face Carl Froch. After that defeat, it took Pascal two years to fight his way back to the top.

The stage is now set for Pascal to deliver and take full advantage of this golden opportunity. With the fight scheduled to take place in Montreal, there is no doubt that Pascal will be the favourite to win. It is no secret that fighting in front of the home crowd often propels a boxer to victory, giving a slight edge to the hometown hero.

None of us have forgotten what happened with Bute and Andrade; a decision by the referee that cost Andrade a victory. While no one expects the same debacle to happen on August 14, we can’t help but point out that fighting in Montreal will certainly make Pascal harder to beat.

Pascal is currently the WBC and IBO light heavyweight champion. The 27 year old Haitian/Canadian boxer is coming off a successful title defence against Adrian Diaconu; he has a record of 25 wins and one loss with 16 knockouts. More...
