Miranda-Gibbs

On December 16th, the uncrowned champion, Edison 'Pantera' Miranda, will be making his HBO debut against Willie Gibbs (20-1, 16 KOs). The fight will be held at Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, Florida and will air live on HBO at 9:30 pm. Pantera will be the main event of the evening.

After being handed one of the most controversial losses in recent history against Arthur Abraham, Miranda is looking to impress the world on HBO against a very rugged Willie Gibbs. Since the IBF maintained Miranda's ranking as #1 in the world, there will eventually be a mandatory rematch against Abraham for the world title. Said Miranda of Abraham, "As you are resting with your broken jaw, I will be fighting on HBO in front of the entire world. However, when you feel you are ready to step back in the ring and test your jaw, I will be waiting for you. I broke it in the first fight, and you should know that I will be the one to take the first crack at your jaw to see how well it has healed."

As for fighting on HBO, Miranda stated, "I want to thank HBO for giving me the opportunity to fight on their network. It is a privilege and an honor. I believe that the world knows I truly beat Abraham, and that I am the better fighter. I promise to show HBO, along with the rest of the world, who the greatest middleweight in the world is on December 16th. I will win and win big!"

Edison Miranda Result

If his jaw breaking performance against IBF Champion Arthur Abraham didn't convince everyone that Edison Miranda is clearly among the world's best middleweights, then surely his one round vaporization of solid veteran Willie Gibbs last night has sealed the deal.

Headlining his first HBO televised card at the Miccosukee Resort in Miami, FL, Miranda wasted no time in niceties as the native of Colombia began to bomb in huge right hands that had Gibbs struggling to survive. Near the end of the first round Miranda struck gold and caught Gibbs flush with a full bodied right hander to the head that had the 31 year old on shaky legs.

Smelling blood, Miranda, 27-1 (24), put the pedal to the metal and shelled Gibbs, 20-2 (16), until the Philadelphian was hammered to the canvas. Unable to regain his footing in time, Gibbs was counted out by referee Tommy Kimmons at 2:59 of the first round.

In other action, the undefeated record of heavily hyped prospect Jason Litzau went down in flames as Jose Andres Hernandez, 22-3 (14), leveled the 5 foot 11 featherweight with a bracing right hand to give Litzau, 20-1 (18), his first loss. Litzau was dropped in the first but came back to control the action right up until the end came at 2:52 of the eighth round.

Welterweight Joel Julio, 29-1 (27), won his third fight since losing his unbeaten record to Carlos Quintana in June by knocking out journeyman Francisco Campas, 20-9-1 (11), in the third round.
