Boxing In Germany: Moreno Defeats Sidorenko In Rematch

By Hermann Helmut May 3rd, 2009 All Boxing Results

Wladimir Sidorenko waited a year to make his ring return following the loss of his WBA Bantamweight title and last night at Hall 7 in Bremen, Germany, the Ukrainian rematched the man who took his belt, Anselmo Moreno of Panama.

All went to plan in the first half of the bout for Sidorenko, who outworked Moreno and looked to have never taken a year off in this battle of light hitting southpaws.

But once the challenger began to slow down, Moreno took control, catching the aggressive Sidorenko on the way in and erasing the Ukrainian's early lead. More...

Boxing In Europe: Weekend Results

By Ricky Jones January 18th, 2009 All Boxing Results

On Friday at Pabellon As Travesas in Vigo, Spain, Ivan Pozo recaptured the European Flyweight title with a ninth round technical decision over iron-chinned Christophe Rodrigues during a closely contested bout in front of 3,000 fans.

Rodrigues came into the bout as the flyweight champion of France and the far shorter southpaw from Beziers put the pressure on local man Pozo from the start.

Pozo, who held the European title in 2005 and unsuccessfully challenged for the WBO Belt in May, worked from the outside, setting up his combinations behind the jab but the forceful Frenchman burrowed inside to force a lot of exchanges on the inside.

The southpaw vs. orthodox pairing produced numerous head clashes and a few warnings to Rodrigues, which ultimately ended the contest in the ninth frame as an injury to the left eye of Pozo was judged to be too serious to allow the bout to continue.

Pozo was ahead on two of the three scorecards and thus declared the winner, much to the delight of the packed house.

The lanky 29 year old improves to 30-5-1 (19), while Rodrigues drops to 15-15-3 (2). More...

Boxing Result: Jones, Inkin Win World Titles In Hamburg

By Hermann Helmut September 28th, 2008 All Boxing Results

After many years as a nearly man, Panama's Guillermo Jones finally fulfilled his promise as he ripped the WBA Cruiserweight title from reigning champion Firat Arslan at the Color Line Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

Arslan began the bout applying the kind of pressure that had won him the title against Virgil Hill almost a year ago but the challenger used his long experience to minimize the impact of the champion's strategy.

Jones then began to masterfully outbox the German, hammering Arslan from angles and punishing the champion when Arslan did throw back return fire.

Arslan showed tremendous heart and toughness to keep going in the face of the heavy shelling and had success in spots but couldn't deal with the speed and accuracy of the much taller, long armed challenger, suffering cuts in the seventh.

By the tenth frame, Arslan had very little left while Jones seemed fresh and still in full command of his arsenal, forcing a stoppage at 2:33 of the frame More...

Boxing In Germany: WBA Champion Sidorenko Dethroned By Moreno!

By Danny Wilson June 1st, 2008 All Boxing Results

The luck of Wladimir Sidorenko finally ran out last night at Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf as the WBA Bantamweight Champion was outpointed by Panama's Anselmo Moreno after twelve rounds.

Moreno, 22-1-1 (8), leveraged a sizable height advantage and southpaw stance to keep the normally hyper-busy Sidorenko, 21-1-2 (7), off his game and take a shocking 116-113 and 116-112 (twice) unanimous decision to annex the WBA 118 lb title that Sidorenko has held since early 2005.

The top Women's featherweight in the world had no such problems as Ina Menzer, 21-0 (9), stayed perfect in defense of her WIBF and WBC titles by planting the first career loss on the resume of American import Stacey Reile, 8-1 (3), via fourth round TKO.

English upset specialist Michael Sprott, 30-12 (15), attempted to derail the 11 fight victory train of heavyweight Taras Bidenko, 26-2 (11), but the former British, Commonwealth and European Union Champion fell short after ten rounds, losing a 97-93 (twice), 97-94 decision.

Heavy-handed cruiserweight Alexander Alexeev, 15-0 (14), won the biggest fight of his career thus far by crushing former world title challenger Louis Azille, 19-6-2 (15), of America in the second round.

Boxing In Germany: Sidorenko WBA Title Defense Headlines Dusseldorf Show Tonight

By Hermann Helmut May 31st, 2008 All Boxing Previews

Tonight at the Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf, Germany, WBA Bantam ruler Wladimir Sidorenko puts his title on the line against Panamanian southpaw Anselmo Moreno on the top of a very big bill.

Sidorenko, 21-0-2 (7), won the WBA belt in early 2005 with a unanimous decision over Mexico's Julio Zarate and to date has retained the title seven times in a row.

This will be the first trip back to Germany for Sidorenko since March of last year as the 31 year old Ukrainian native won his last two contests in France and Japan.

Tonight, Sidorenko will carry his high work rate style into the ring against Anselmo Moreno, a young and hungry challenger from El Martillo, Panama.

The 22 year old southpaw is the reigning WBA Fedecentro titlist and won a WBA title eliminator last August by crushing longtime former NABF beltholder Ricardo "Chapo" Vargas in just one round. More...
