The stakes couldn’t be higher, the drama more intense. On Saturday, Oct. 29, two confident reigning world champions–one from America, the other from Europe–will collide in the eagerly awaited Super Six World Boxing Classic Final, a World Championship Unification, live on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast, from the historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
When the Super Six began, neither undefeated WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KOs), of Oakland, Calif., nor his WBC counterpart, Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KOs), of Nottingham, England, were among the favorites.
But through career-defining fights and remarkable drama both in and out of the ring, Ward and Froch have persevered and emerged as prominent members of boxing’s exclusive Pound-for-Pound list and are now poised for global stardom.
The Super Six World Boxing Classic was conceived by Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Showtime Sports, to match the best fighters in a deep, talent-laden division in a series of fights to see who would come out on top.
Now, Ward and Froch are just one victory away from earning the distinction of being the undisputed No. 1 super middleweight in the world. More...

Carl Froch kept hold of his WBC super middleweight title and moved into the finals of the Super Six tournament by posting a victory over veteran Glen Johnson last night at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall.
Johnson had predicted that his aggressive style would be too much for the champion to deal with but the 42 year old former ex-IBO/IBF light heavy king didn't find Froch to be standing right in front of him in the early rounds, which featured little action.
As the rounds wore on, Johnson picked up the pace and had success with single shots but Froch was spurred on to launch combination punching that scored more often than not and kept the challenger from taking control.
Each time it seemed that Johnson had made a breakthrough, back came Froch with faster punches that multiplied the challenger's efforts and kept the champion in the lead. More...

Carl Froch is the heavy favorite to defeat Glen Johnson Saturday in Atlantic City live on Showtime (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast), but Super Six World Boxing Classic Finalist Andre Ward believes there’s a decent chance that “The Road Warrior” can upset “The Cobra” to claim the WBC Super Middleweight title and advance to the tournament Final.
"It’s a 50-50 fight,” Ward said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Carl Froch dominated Glen Johnson and I wouldn’t be surprised if Johnson pulled the upset.” More...

Andre Ward dominated Arthur Abraham with power and speed throughout the fight on his way to a unanimous decision victory on Saturday night. In the process, Ward defended his WBA super middleweight title and became the first finalist in the Super Six semifinals. The question is should boxing fans really care about a tournament that is never-ending and has lost most of its luster?
Some will argue that this tournament displays the best talents of the middleweight division but if that were true why has Lucien Bute been excluded? Bute currently holds the IBF super middleweight title and is undefeated but yet is not part of this prestigious tournament? In fact, the only fighter who saves the Super Six from obscurity is WBA Super World super middleweight champion, Andre Ward.
I do believe that Showtime's Super Six World Boxing Classic is trying to give the sport of boxing what it desperately needs: great match-ups and an exciting tournament that has a purpose, to crown a super middleweight king. However, the main problems are the length of the Super Six and its lack of viability in the U.S. market.
The tournament is perceived as much too long to capture the attention of the casual boxing fan. In the first stage of the competition, each fighter has to compete in three bouts. The next stages has a faster rhythm but still takes time which makes the tournament excessively long.
Adding to the problem is that the Super Six has a small impact on boxing in the United States. The reason why this is such an important element is because, boxing needs to have a revival in the United States. On U.S. soil, fans have turned a blind eye to the sport unless a major name is competing, which doesn't happen often. Whereas in Europe and in Asia, boxing remains one of the major sports and doesn't require a much needed boost.
So far, the Super Six is turning out to be a great event for Ward. Only time will tell, however, if it`s going to be just as good for boxing.

Andre Ward kept moving forward in the Super Six Tournament last night at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA as the world's top super middleweight overcame a tough challenge in the early rounds from former IBF middleweight titlist Arthur Abraham and retained his WBA crown via unanimous decision.
Abraham is using the jab in the first, applying pressure, backing up Ward. Ward using his jab to disrupt Abraham and is constantly moving, feinting. Abraham tries a few big punches that Ward evades. Abraham looks more active in the earlier rounds than he usually does while Ward is being very cautious. Ward goes forward at round's end, chases Abraham over the course of the last seconds.
Ward starting to be more assertive in the second, jabbing to the body and hooking the forward marching Abraham. Abraham starts using the jab, goes to the body, Ward retaliates with the same but strays a bit low. Abraham stalking, Ward starts getting very evasive. Abraham tries a combination, lands a right to the head. Ward bulls Abraham into the ropes and throws a head body combo to a shelled up Abraham. Abraham lands a good body combination and Ward instantly puts more distance between the two.
Abraham gets close and Ward grabs him around the waist, Abraham whales away with his right to Ward's midsection as Ward pins him on the ropes and the clinch is broken by the referee, who tells Abraham off. Abraham misses with a windmill right, Ward grabs him around the waist again. Abraham is more confident now and lets go with both hands to head and body, the last right lands to the head. Ward tries to hold him off with the jab, Abraham ends the round with another head body combination but Ward blocks the final right this time.
Ward is looking to regain control in the third frame and backs Abraham up with the jab and scores a hard right to the body. Ward keeping distance, using the jab and occasional harder shot. Abraham advancing with a high guard, trying to cut off the ring. Abraham begins jabbing again, gets in a good one, while Ward gets a good jab in to the pit of Abraham's stomach. Ward counters an Abraham jab with a better one. Ward stops Abraham's progress with a nice jab. Abraham tries jabbing his way in but Ward is moving well and "King Arthur' can't get off any power shots. More...

Tonight at Carson, California's Home Depot Center, WBA super middleweight champ Andre Ward defends against challenger Arthur Abraham as part of the ongoing Super Six Tournament.
Ward is coming off a rough and tumble affair with hardened veteran Sakio Bika in November, and that clash was probably the perfect warm up bout for this evening's test against Abraham.
Undefeated at 23-0 (13), Ward will face a seasoned ex-IBF middleweight king in the form of Abraham, who, like Bika, will bring pressure and wild swings to the party at the Home Depot Center.
Abraham, 32-2 (26), saw a return to form in his most recent outing, a good scrap in February with ex-WBA super middle title challenger Stjepan Bozic that was cut short when Bozic retired in the second with a hand injury. More...
