The Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN saw Irish middleweight star Andy Lee, 18-1 (13), return to an American ring for the first time in over a year following his shocking loss to Brian Vera.
The lanky southpaw came into his bout with Anthony Shuler, 20-7-1 (14), as a super middle and stopped the Indianapolis man at 2:05 of the eighth in a scheduled ten rounder.
Steel-chinned former IBF light middleweight title challenger Angel "Toro" Hernandez, 30-7 (17), followed up his defeat of prospect James McGirt Jr in January with a sixth round referee stoppage of ex-two weight world title challenger Antwun Echols, 31-12-4 (27), who hasn't won a fight since 2004.
Heavyweight Owen Beck, 29-3 (20), two years removed from his unsuccessful bid at the WBA crown, posted an eight round unanimous decision over granite-jawed former NABO cruiserweight beltholder Jermell Barnes, 18-22-2 (4), who has gone 2-18-2 since January, 2004, by scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 77-75. Top women's welterweight Holly Holm, 24-1-3 (7), retained her WIBA belt by stopping Duda Yankovich, 11-1 (5), in the fourth round at Isleta Casino in Albuquerque, NM. Holm has now gone 18 bouts without a loss.
At the Mahi Shrine Temple in Miami, FL, light middle Carlos Molina, 17-4-1 (5), outpointed veteran Danny Perez, 34-6 (17), over 12 for the WBO NABO crown while lightweight Ira Terry, 22-2 (12), won a majority decision after eight rounds against Leon Bobo, 18-3-1 (2).
Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN was the site of a big win by light heavy prospect Marcus Oliveria, 19-0-1 (15), who KO'd Otis Griffin, 19-6-2 (7), with a full blooded uppercut in the second round.
Also on the bill, 37 year old ex-middleweight world title challenger Antwun Echols, 31-11-4 (27), was stopped in the seventh by Phil Williams, 11-1 (10), at light heavyweight.
At the Westbury Music Fair in Westbury, NY, light middle Pawel Wolak, 24-1 (16), outpointed cagey veteran Vinroy Barrett, 22-8 (11), over ten frames.

Former World Light Heavyweight Champion Roy Jones Jr, 53-5 (39), made a successful comeback following his loss to Joe Calzaghe last November with a fifth round stoppage of former super middle world title challenger Omar Sheika, 27-9 (18), at the Civic Center in Jones' hometown of Pensacola, FL.
On the support bill, undefeated cruiserweight contender BJ Flores, 23-0-1 (14), posted a ten rounder over big punching Colombian Jose Luis Herrera, 16-6 (16).
The Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, CA saw ex-IBF Light Middle titlist Roman Karmazin, 38-3-1 (24), stop former world middle title challenger Antwun Echols, 31-10-4 (27), in the seventh round at middleweight and middleweight prospect Miguel Angel Espino, 20-2-1 (9), dropped former WBA Light Middle Champ Alejandro Garcia, 26-5-1 (24), twice enroute to a sixth round stoppage win. Jed Weinstein Presents hosted the fourth annual Box-NYC charity event at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The star studded night was highlighted with live boxing televised on ESPN’s Wednesday Night Fights, fine-dining, a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament, model and celebrity appearances as well as live and silent auctions. Over the past three years Jed Weinstein has donated $100,000 to The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation through Box-NYC.
Local favorite Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin improved to 18-0 (14) by getting the best of veteran Antwun Echols 31-8-4 (27) over ten rounds. Quillin dropped Echols in the first round and dominated the fight which could have been stopped at anytime during the last three or four rounds.
The domination of Echols and the fact that he is 0-3-3 in his last six fights not winning since 2004 will hopefully indicate to him that it may be time to retire. During the last few rounds of the fight Echols bravely showed his fighter’s spirit by refusing to go down after being on the receiving end of many unnecessary blows, but it was clear that he was out on his feet.
