Boxing Preview Analysis: David Haye vs. Wladimir Klitschko

By Lee Bellfield July 2nd, 2011 All Boxing Previews

After three years of talking and postponements the heavyweight unification fight we all want to see is finally taking place at the magnificent Immtech Arena in Hamburg.

60,000 fight fans will at long last see WBA champion David Haye take on the WBO and IBF Champion Wladimir Klitschko in arguably the biggest heavyweight fight in a decade.

This is the Hayemaker's third title defence. After defeating the giant Nikolay Valuev back in November 2009 Haye has dispatched challengers John Ruiz and Audley Harrison in convincing fashion.

In all, this Hayes sixth fight in the heavyweight ranks. A former cruiserweight world champion he travelled to France in 2007 to defeat veteran Jean Marc Mormeck in seven rounds to win the title.

Only one defence would follow when he crushed domestic rival Enzo Maccarinelli in two rounds to unify the title.

For Haye, it's all about the big fights now. Vowing to retire on his 31st birthday, he wants to box both Klitschko brothers to try and clean up the division. More...

Erasing The Legend Of Roy Jones Jr

By Paul Downey May 26th, 2011 All Boxing Articles

Having just witnessed the last round stoppage of Roy Jones Jr. by Denis Lebedev, it is now clear that the American fighter must retire; for his own health.

It is one of boxing's worst kept secret that Jones has been in decline for many years, racking up defeats to Antonio Tarver (twice), Joe Calzaghe, Danny Green, Bernard Hopkins (in their second 'fight' if you can call it that) and of course now Lebedev.

Never has a natural talent of the sport fallen so far from grace, going from packing out arenas all over America to fighting 10 rounders in Russia. Jones reportedly has a lot of financial problems, and looked every bit the part of the fighter there for the pay day in the build-up to the Lebedev fight.

Take nothing away from Lebedev though, just as Calzaghe before him, he now has a win over Roy Jones Jr on his fight record.

The sicking finish in the final round, was surely an indication for Jones, if he chooses to watch it back to call it a day.

Even the fights that Jones has won in recent times (Jeff Lacy and Omar Sheika) have been seen as safety-first bouts against opponents who would not trouble even this shadow of the once arguable pound for pound king.

The first defeat of his career, a needless disqualification against Montell Griffin, began his downward spiral, although a lot of people noted that he was never the same fighter after dropping back down to Light Heavyweight after beating John Ruiz to win the WBA heavyweight belt in 2003. More...

Last night, at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, David Haye retained his WBA Heavyweight Title by a third round demolition of Audley Harrison.

It had been an ‘odd’ start to the fight; Harrison looked nervous and both men were over-cautious, hardly throwing a shot - which annoyed the waiting crowd, who began to boo.

In round two, even the Referee had to encourage them to ‘fight’ but it seems Haye was ‘waiting’ for the third round. Harrison hit the canvas just past mid-way through the third after a flurry of shots from the Champion.

Fighting resumes and Haye dashes across to his opponent, landing shots to the head. Harrison's head was rocked back and Referee Luis Pabon jumped in to stop the contest. More...

Boxing Result: David Haye Stops Audley Harrison In Manchester

By Ricky Jones November 13th, 2010 All Boxing Results

Tonight at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, WBA heavyweight champion David Haye made short work of former mentor and ex-European champion Audley Harrison.

The skills displayed by Haye and Harrison, not to mention respective achievements, during their careers to this point firmly positioned Haye as the favorite by very wide margins but much was made of the pair's former good relationship now gone sour and how that had motivated Harrison into what was sure to be a sterling performance in his long sought after crack at a world title.

That possibility never became a reality in the ring this evening in Manchester as Harrison never go his offense going in a very somber initial two rounds, and Haye did little better as they bot largely kept a distance.

By the third, however, Haye broke the ice with his trademark speed and power. Haye efforts from both hands caught Harrison flush and the 39 year old former Olympic Gold Medal winner was soon on the canvas. More...

The Manchester Evening News Arena for the second time this year hosts a World Heavyweight Championship fight when the battle of Britain takes place between David Haye and Audley Harrison tonight.

For Haye, this is the second defence of the championship he won one year ago from the giant Nikolay Valuev. In his one and only defence seven months ago, he broke down and eventually stopped the veteran ex-champion John Ruiz in eight.

Apart from one defeat, Haye has known only victories in his pro career. Back in 2004 after a bright start against ex-Cruiserweight champion Carl Thomson, Haye ran out of steam en route to a fifth round stoppage defeat.

He would rebound from this defeat not only by winning a version of the World Cruiserweight championship abroad in France against Jean Marc Mormeck in 2007 he did it by surviving an early knockdown before stopping his foe. He would then unify the titles by stopping fellow Brit Enzo Maccarinelli in two rounds in 2008. More...

Yesterday, at The Lowry, Salford Quays, England, fans gathered to see the official weigh-in ahead of tonights World Heavyweight Title clash between David Haye and Audley Harrison.

The under-card weighed in first. But as Audley Harrison and David Haye entered the weigh-in area (from opposite entrances) – the waiting crowd began to cheer. Haye’s t-shirt bearing the words ‘NO YOU CAN’T’ in bold letters, prompted the crowds to chant “YES YOU CAN” (Harrison supporters) and “NO YOU CAN’T” (Haye fans). Both boxers joined in, encouraging the crowd to shout.

Harrison was first up on the scales, weighing in at 18 stone 1 and a half pounds.

A confident Haye ‘posed’ on the scales to show off his toned physique. He tipped the scales at 15 stone and half a pound (roughly three stone less than his opponent!)

As they posed for the usual ‘Face-off’ photographs, Former undisputed World Heavyweight Champion – Lennox Lewis – stood between the two men supposedly keeping them apart, but there was no pushing or shoving from these two who just looked coolly at each other while Harrison nodded. More...

Saturday, November 13th we will be treated to the biggest all British heavyweight world title fight since Lennox Lewis took on Frank Bruno back in 1993.

David Haye, 24-1 (22), defends his WBA title against Audley Harrison, 27-4 (20), at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

This will be Haye’s second defence of the title since he went to Germany and took it off Nikolay Valuev, whereas this will be Harrison’s first real crack at a world title. Some say he does not deserve it, but as he is now the European champion, on paper it is legitimate.

Audley Harrison’s career has been a long old road, with its ups and downs and twists and turns. Never has he fully recaptured the public belief that he once carried with him after his stellar amateur career, which culminated in a Gold Medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also won a Gold at the Commonwealth games two years earlier in Kuala Lumpur. More...
