With two Irish titles to his name and a perfect record of 14 straight wins, Cavan star Andy Murray is ready to turn his attention to European affairs.
Murray will make a bid for the European Union Lightweight title at The O2 Arena, Dublin on Saturday, March 21 in a featured attraction on the Hunky Dorys World Title Fight Night.
A sensational night of boxing is headlined by Bernard Dunne’s challenge for the WBA World Super Bantamweight title against Panama's Ricardo “Maestrito” Cordoba while Olympic heroes Kenny Egan and Paddy Barnes will also be in action alongside reigning World and European Champion, Katie Taylor, as professional and amateur boxing come together for a historic night of Irish sport.
Murray will lead the professional side of the undercard as he faces Italy’s Massimiliano Chiofalo with the European Union Lightweight title at stake. More...

Although WBA World Super Bantamweight Champion Ricardo Cordoba says he won’t be watching any video of Bernard Dunne ahead of their Hunky Dorys World Title Fight Night, the champ's backroom team are adamant that they will be doing their homework on the challenger.
The two men clash at The O2, Dublin on Saturday, March 21 and Cordoba’s promoter Richard Dobal says they have the utmost respect for Dunne.
“I’ve a lot of respect for Bernard because he’s done what very few European fighters do, he went to the U.S. to learn his trade with Freddie Roach, who’s probably the most successful trainer in the world”, said Dobal.
“We know all about his sparring with Manny Pacquiao while he was in Los Angeles and we know that he was more than capable of holding his own with Pacquiao, so that tells you everything you need to know about him. More...

Irish boxing hero Bernard Dunne goes in search of the ultimate prize at The O2 in Dublin on Saturday, March 21 at the Hunky Dorys World Title Fight Night.
Dunne takes on World champion Ricardo “El Maestrito” Cordoba for the WBA Super Bantamweight title as world championship boxing returns to Ireland for the first time in 13 years.
The Dubliner turns 29 next month and he feels the timing is perfect for a shot at the WBA belt, which once adorned the waist of Barry McGuigan over two decades ago.
“This is the fight I’ve wanted since I first put on a pair of boxing gloves,” said Dunne. “It’s every boxer's dream to be a world champion and I’m no different. This is what I’ve worked my whole life for and now that the chance is here I want to grab it with both hands.” More...

Saturday, November 15 saw David Haye embark on his heavyweight quest. Across the Irish Sea, a slighter gladiator was treading water, with the prospect of a super bantamweight world title lying somewhere over the horizon.
Bernard Dunne carried out his training camp in preparation for the rugged Eduardo Garcia. Garcia was indisposed a few weeks before the fight and in his place, Cristian Faccio assumed the antagonist's role in opposition of the Irish folk hero.
Faccio was well regarded, ranked eleventh by both WBO and WBC sanctioning bodies. Faccio, however, is naturally a bantamweight and on the day of the weigh-in, was a pound below the limit and indeed below Dunne, who weighed one hundred and twenty two pounds precisely.
Dunne’s interview revealed him to be supremely confident and thoroughly prepared for this fight, which he believes will provide him access to the upper echelons of world boxing.
Faccio’s modest entrance was given a fine Irish welcome. He was far from home, but was awarded a warm applause. Had he been the second man to enter the ring he would have had no reason to be intimidated, but as he moved about in his corner, Dunne’s entrance transformed the Breaffy Arena into a cauldron and one had to imagine Faccio, far from home standing in the centre of an Irish coliseum.
First pitched into darkness, the arena was filled with theatrical smoke, spotlights and the battle cries of the Irish fans, which added to the dramatic overstatement that is Dunne’s entrance. More...

The Continent saw a few good fight cards this weekend and we start off in Germany where at the Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf played host to a good card.
The headline event featured the biggest win so far for heavyweight Alexander Dimitrenko, 29-0 (19), who knocked out ex-European Champion and world title challenger Luan Krasniqi, 30-4-1 (14), in the third round of a contest for the WBO Intercontinental Heavyweight title.
Standing six feet seven inches and weighing in at 256 pounds, 26 year old Ukrainian Dimitrenko has pounded his way through the lower ranks since turning professional seven years ago but the defeat of Krasniqi signals the entrance of the Hamburg resident onto the world stage.
There were three good eight round contests on the bill as well with heavyweight Denis Boystov, 23-0 (18), outpointing American visitor Vinny Maddalone, 31-5 (22), super middle Dimitri Sartison, 23-1 (15), stopped Edison Francisco Guedes, 11-8-1 (5), in the third while super middle Gusmyl Perdomo, 16-2 (10), stopped Laurent Goury, 14-18 (2), in the fourth.
The International Events Centre in Castlebar, Ireland saw former European Super Bantam Champ Bernard Dunne, 27-1 (14), take a technical decision after six rounds against Uruguay's former WBC Bantam title challenger Cristian Faccio, 16-4 (11). More...
