‘Breidis Prescott’

Boxing In America: Friday Night Results

By Richard Eberline July 18th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Last night at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV lightweight contender Breidis Prescott picked up his first pro loss at the hands of Mexican veteran Miguel Vazquez, who pounded out a split decision victory.

Colombian bomb thrower Prescott, 21-1 (18), came into the bout best known for crushing Britain's heavily hyped Amir Khan last year and was favored to defeat Vazquez, 25-3 (12).

Prescott nearly pulled off another early stoppage when he decked his rival in the first but Vazquez, a career light welter/welter who's only losses had come at the hands of former IBF 140 pound champ Timothy Bradley and welterweight contender Saul Alvarez, got back up and went to work.

After ten rounds, Vazquez had outboxed Prescott, taking two of the cards by scores of 96-93 and 95-94 while the Colombian won the third 97-92. More...

Only six weeks after stopping Roger “Speedy” Gonzalez in round 10 at his last ESPN appearance, “El Ciclon” is ready to shine again on the next “Friday Night Fights” show presented by Arena Box-Promotion US, LLC.

“Yuri is a true fighter”, states promoter Ahmet Öner. “He loves to go out there and show his talent, power and speed. If it was up to him he would most probably fight every other week.

"Originally, we had planned to have him fight for the world title in his next bout but I think it might be good to give him another tough test before reaching for the gold.” More...

Boxing Perspective: M.E.N Madness

By Matt Cotterell September 16th, 2008 All Boxing Articles

Same old, same old...

I can only draw one conclusion from watching Audley Harrison's ‘career’; the man likes upsetting us. Ever since striking gold in 2000, Harrison has subjected the boxing watching public to what can only be described as a fistic cure for insomnia.

The latest instalment in the lowlight that is Harrison’s career saw him labour to a ten round decision over Brazilian cruiserweight George Arias. It took all of ten seconds for the M.E.N crowd to turn on Harrison as a he once again picked and poked and grunted his way through another ‘fight’.

Arias tried to make a contest of things and his flurries of punches regularly landed on Harrison's chin and body, bringing cheers from an oddly behaved crowd. Harrison for his part did occasionally open up and let some leather fly, which prompted the commentary team to remark that at times Harrison looks world class.

In truth, the only thing world class about Harrison is his gob. "I got the win, still believe that I can win a world title, that guy went the distance with Johnny Nelson." Well, that changes everything then doesn’t it?

Boxing Result: Amir Khan Crushed In A Single Round By Breidis Prescott In Manchester

Last night at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, undefeated Commonwealth Lightweight Champion Amir Khan suffered a sensational first round knockout at the hands of Colombian slugger Breidis Prescott for the WBO Intercontinental crown.

The end came for Khan inside the first minute of round one after already suffering one knockdown and being allowed to continue the fight despite struggling to stand straight.

In an interview afterward, with Adam Smith of Sky Sports, Khan said he was okay and he'd just made a 'silly mistake' which cost him. But that he'd 'be back stronger'.

Frank Warren, promoter of Khan, was questioned on his reason for taking Prescott as an opponent for Khan despite the Colombian's record of 19 wins, 17 by KO.

Mr. Warren admitted that it was 'down to him', but that Prescott had been recommended by Khan's new trainer.

Also on the bill, WBO Super Feather titlist Alex Arthur was upset by former European, Commonwealth and British Featherweight Champion Nicky Cook, who outworked the "Golden Boy" of Scottish boxing over twelve rounds to win by unanimous decision. More...

Boxing Preview Analysis: Amir Khan vs. Breidis Prescott

By Lee Bellfield September 6th, 2008 All Boxing Previews

Hot lightweight prospect Amir Khan tops the bill tonight at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England when he faces dangerous Colombian Breidis Prescott.

At stake is the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight title, but more importantly both men's unbeaten records are on the line.

Khan, 21 from Bolton, England, is unbeaten in 18 bouts with 14 knockouts. The 2004 Olympic Silver Medallist is an exciting boxer puncher. In Prescott, he meets a man who also carries knockout power. Unbeaten in 19, the 25 year old Colombian has scored 17 knockouts, most of which have been in the first five rounds.

Again, the spotlight is on Khan. Although exciting, the Bolton sensation has also looked defensively open. Against light punching Scot Willie Limond in July of last year, Khan was tagged badly before rallying to stop his opponent in eight.

In his most recent fight, three months ago, against veteran Michael Gomez, who was formerly a British Super Featherweight Champion, Khan was floored before knocking out the Mancunian slugger in five.

Little is known of Prescott apart from the fact that he can punch. However, looking through his record, most of his CV is filled with little known opponents in his native Colombia.

The big selling point of this fight, which amazingly is being aired as a Pay Per View event here in the UK, is that both men are punchers and Khan likes a tear up if needed.

That being said, Khan's promoter is a shrewd businessman and I cant see him risking Khans perfect 0 just yet and I feel Khan will box and move, using his cutting punches to break down Prescott's defence by the midway stage. More...

Boxing In America: Weekend Results

By Danny Wilson June 30th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Aside from the big Pacquiao vs. Diaz card in Las Vegas, there was some good action in America this weekend starting off with the latest bout of Irish sensation John Duddy, who outpointed Charlie Howe at The Castle in Boston, MA.

Duddy, 25-0 (17), was coming off a horrific performance against Montreal based Tunisian fighter Walid Smichet in February and needed an impressive win. At 33 years of age with losses to the only name fighters that he had faced, Joey Gilbert and Cornelius Brundage, Howe, 17-5-2 (9), was handpicked for the purpose.

Not surprisingly, Duddy had little trouble practicing his arsenal against the Midwesterner, finding range to both the head and body with equal success with very little coming back in return.

Howe was hurt at times but the big hearted fighter never stopped trying against his more skilled foe, landing a few good shots here and there to keep Duddy from running roughshod over him.

After the bout ran it's ten round course, Duddy was awarded the victory on marks of 100-90 on all three scorecards. More...
