A close, all-action contest sees Sykes pick him-self up off the canvas in the ninth to finish the round and remaining three frames strongly - winning by Unanimous Points Decision.

By Boxing Press February 8th, 2011 All Press Releases

On Saturday night in Brentwood, England, Stoke Newington’s exceptional Light Middleweight prospect Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng easily secured his sixth win, albeit not in his usual all action style.

Ochieng’s opponent, the reigning British Masters Light Middleweight Champion Lee ‘Lightning’ Noble, clearly didn’t come to fight, instead he just closed up shop and pulled down the shutters, in a similar way that he did against Ochieng’s Ultrachem TKO Gym mate ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese back in September. Stoke Dinner Show: Rob Hunt Vs Ben Lawler

By Jane Warburton November 12th, 2010 All Ringside Boxing

lawler winner21 Stoke Dinner Show: Rob Hunt Vs Ben Lawler

Thursday night, at the Moat House, Festival Park, Stoke, Paul Dykes promoted a dinner show which featured three contests. Headlining the bill, Rob Hunt of Stafford faced Ben Lawler of Skegness for the British Masters Welter-weight Title, but it wasn’t to be the Stafford mans night!

Hunt has a disastrous start which sees him down in the first round. Lawler was encouraged by the knockdown and his trainer Carl Greaves shouts “Believe in Yourself!” from the corner.

The Stafford man goes down again early in the second round, but there were some hefty head shots flying in from both men – either one could have hit the canvas! But it was Hunt again who took a second count.

Round three and Hunt’s nose is bloody as both fighters continue to throw some big shots. Hunt’s head seems to have cleared by the fifth frame but early in the sixth – Hunt is pressured on the ropes and Referee Terry O’Conner jumps in to stop the contest. Lawler laughs out loud with jubilation and for a few seconds there is an eery silence until the crowd realised what had happened. Then they boo’d their disapproval. In my opinion – the boo’s weren’t justified and it was unfair that Lawler was subjected to that after such a gutsy performance. A bad night at the office for Hunt, but Lawler wins the title and improves to 7 wins (2 by KO) 8 losses (4 by KO) while Hunt drops to 14 wins (1 by KO) 1 loss (1 by KO) More...

Boxing In Britain: Hunt vs. Lawler Dinner Show November 11 In Stoke

By Jane Warburton November 3rd, 2010 All Boxing Articles

Stoke Promoter – Paul Dykes, will host a Dinner Show next Thursday (11th November) at the Moat House Hotel, in Stoke-on-Trent, England.

The event will showcase three contests and headlines the British Masters Welterweight Title bout between Rob Hunt of Stafford and Ben Lawler of Skegness.

After a successful Martial Arts career which earned him a Midlands Title – Hunt entered the amateur boxing ranks for Stafford ABC. After winning two contests by KO he turned pro in 2006 and remains unbeaten with a 14 win, 1 draw record.

Lawler is no stranger to Hunt – as the two men fought each other at Wolverhampton Civic in September when Hunt secured a points win at Light-Welterweight over six rounds.

Dykes says that ‘if Hunt overcomes his next hurdle against Lawler, he will be looking to put him in for a Midlands Title shot and then possibly an eliminator for the English Title.’ More...

Jonjo Finnegan (Burton-on-Trent) v Dean Walker (Sheffield)
10 x 3 Vacant British Masters Super-Middleweight Title Fight

It was a steady start to this Title contest, but Finnegan begins to settle in to the third round – keeping calm and patient. But Walker looks determined and gets in with some decent shots this round. It’s a good round four for Finnegan but a nick starts to develop over his right brow by the end of the sixth.

The local man is under pressure at the end of the seventh and during the intermission (as in all the intermissions) – Walker sits listening intently to his trainer and answering instruction calmly. More...
