European Champ Martinez Withdrawals From Frampton Fight

Matchroom Sport can confirm that European Super Bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez has withdrawn from his fight with Carl Frampton on September 10 at the Odyssey Arena through personal reasons.

Martinez’s father was taken ill during the young Spaniard’s training camp and has since had his leg amputated. The 25 year-old left his base to spend time with his father, and as a result has pulled out of the fight on the undercard of Paul McCloskey vs. Breidis Prescott, live on Sky Sports. More...

Frampton Steps Up To Challenge For Martinez’s European Title

Carl Frampton will challenge Kiko Martinez for the European Super Bantamweight title on September 10 at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

The fight will be the chief support bout on the Paul McCloskey vs. Breidis Prescott WBA Light Welterweight World title eliminator, and Frampton is confident he can wrestle the title from the Spaniard in just his 11th pro contest.

Boxing Result: McCloskey Retains European Title Against Lauri In Belfast

Last night at Belfast's historic King's Hall, light welter Paul McCloskey retained his European title in a difficult contest against experienced Italian operator Giuseppe Lauri.

Making the first defense of the European crown won against Spanish champ Daniel Rasilla last November, southpaw McCloskey struck paydirt early when Lauri was canvassed in the second frame.

But the former European Union and Italian titlist beat the count and proceeded to drag the Irishman into a slugfest that suited the shorter visitor.

The more experienced challenger had no problems hitting McCloskey, who threw his boxing skills out the window in an attempt to produce another knockdown. In the tenth, McCloskey lost a point for use of the head and with that the bout was far closer going into the championship rounds than had been expected. More...
