‘Cristobal Arreola’

Despite his 38 years, Vitali Klitschko remains firmly in control of the heavyweight division after battering brave but outgunned challenger Chris Arreola for ten rounds last night to retain the WBC title at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Arreola stuck to his game plan of coming forward in the attempt to take away the towering champion's reach advantage but for a big man, Klitschko has excellent footwork, reflexes and boxing skills, nullifying almost everything the challenger could offer.
Using a pole axe-like jab, Klitschko made Arreola pay for each foot gained into enemy territory and on many occasions, the champ's very hard right hand followed in combination to great effect.
Arreola's main problem early on was he could not land anything of substance. That changed a bit in the middle rounds but Klitschko proved to be able to take Arreola's heavy artillery on the occasion when it connected and also punish the Californian afterward for his troubles. More...

Tonight at Staples Center in Los Angeles, the WBC heavyweight title is up for grabs as Vitali Klitschko defends against undefeated Cristobal Arreola over 12 scheduled rounds.
During the media buildup to this one, a lot has been made of the power of Arreola, 27-0 (24), by his promoters and while it's true that their man does have a very good punch, it pales in comparison with that of Klitschko.
Towering Vitali, 37-2 (36), has belted out every one of his victims with the exception of fellow 6'7 tall Timo Hoffman when the two clashed for the European title in 2000.
And that's what this fight comes down to in a nutshell; can Arreola take Klitschko's punches for all 12 frames?
Most of Klitschko's stoppages over the last 10 years have been in the later rounds. Since losing a controversial bout to Lennox Lewis in 2003, four of Vitali's five finishings have been in the eighth or ninth rounds. More...

Tonight at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, CA, a contest for the vacant WBO Light Middleweight title takes place between Verno Phillips and Paul Williams.
Phillips, 42-10-1 (21), resuscitated his career in March by defeating Cory Spinks for the IBF 154 pound belt, a title the Belize born Denver resident held previously in 2004 in addition to the WBO Light Middle crown Phillips owned during 1994-5.
Facing Phillips will be WBO Welterweight Champion Paul Williams, 35-1 (26), a 6-1 southpaw who will tower over Phillips with a five inch height advantage and an amazing 13 inch edge in reach.
This bout is a big ask for the three time light middleweight champion at 39 years of age but if Phillips can slip the long jab of Williams and make the welterweight titlist engage in a draining fight on the inside, he could pull off the upset.
The incentive, aside of course from winning an additional world title, for Williams is liberation from the welterweight weight class and it's confining 147 pound limit, no easy task as the massive South Carolina native begins to fill out at 27 years of age.
A good bout on the undercard features America's number one heavyweight contender, big punching local man Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola, 25-0 (22), who meets Houston based Travis "Freight Train" Walker, 28-1-1 (22), in an IBF title eliminator that is also for the NABF and WBC Continental Americas belts.

There is an old axiom in boxing: “Don’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk.”
On Thursday, September 25, WBO Welterweight Champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams, 34-1 (25), will back up his claim of accepting every conceivable challenge between 147 pounds and 168 pounds, when he moves up to the middleweight division to take on tough, hard-hitting middleweight, Andy Kolle, 17-1 (12), in a non-title 10 round bout at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, California. The fight will air live on Versus, a national sports network in more than 73 million homes at 9 P.M. ET. More...
