Boxing In Australia: Dawson KO’s Aparicio In Perth

By Bruce Dingo February 1st, 2009 All Boxing Results

Australia's top light middleweight was in action earlier today as Daniel "The Rock" Dawson won his fifth straight by knocking out Ariel Gerardo Aparicio in the third round at the WA Italian Club in Perth.

The big punching local man's patient pressure style proved to be too much for Argentina's Aparicio, 26-10-1 (10), who had previously shared the ring, in losing efforts, with Raul Balbi, Lovemore N'Dou, Sebastian Andres Lujan, Marcos Rene Maidana and Chad Bennett.

Dawson retains the PABA title while winning the vacant IBF Pan Pacific crown and moves to 34-1 (24).

The 31 year old Perth resident has only ever come up short during a brief move to middleweight where he was outpointed by sharp boxing fellow Aussie Daniel Geale for the vacant IBO title.

Since turning pro in 2002, "The Rock" has also won the WBA Pan African, WBO Asia Pacific and Australian titles at light middle along with the Australian and WBF belts at middleweight.

Boxing In Asia: Saturday Night Results

By Danny Wilson September 21st, 2008 All Boxing Results

Local light middle Daniel "The Rock" Dawson was in action last night at the Courtside Multisports Complex in his hometown of Perth, Australia and the 30 year old slugger banged out a hard-fought 12 round unanimous decision win against South Africa's Welcome Ntshingila.

A former IBO Champion, Dawson, 32-1 (22), defended his PABA crown and also captured the vacant WBA Pan-African title with the win over the durable Ntshingila, 15-7-3 (5), who was coming off a loss to former Commonwealth Champion Ali Nuumbembe for the WBA Pan-African Welter belt in June.

Japan's famed Korakuen Hall in Tokyo was the scene of Filipino "Golden Boy" Randy Suico's, 28-3-1 (24), latest ring appearance as the Mandaue City slugger was held to a majority decision draw against steel-chinned Japanese prospect Nihito Arakawa, 13-1-1 (9), in defense of Suico's OPBF Lightweight title.

Suico has only lost to current, future or former world champions and Arakawa's performance could mean big things for the future of the Tokyo based southpaw.

Another OPBF crown was at risk at Korakuen Hall as Konosuke Tomiyama, 18-1 (6), kept his super flyweight strap with a dramatic twelfth round stoppage of hard-nosed crosstown rival Kuniyuki Aizawa, 13-4-1 (10). More...

Boxing In Australia: Friday Night Results

By Bruce Dingo June 28th, 2008 All Boxing Results

It was a massive night of fisticuffs last night Down Under and with so much action to choose from, it's difficult to know where to start!

But start we must and that takes us to the Sydney area where at the Catholic in Campbelltown, NSW, there was a big showdown at middleweight between IBO Champion Daniel Geale and challenger Geard Ajetovic.

Geale was coming off a masterful boxing performance last December against previously undefeated slugger Daniel "The Rock" Dawson to win the vacant IBO belt and but the Mt. Annan stylist was facing a tough challenge in this one.

Ajetovic, a native Serbian who has fought his entire career in England, had completed his last six bouts without a loss following a narrow disappointment to European Champ Christopher Canclaux in a non-title bout two years ago.

When the bout started, it was clear that Geale possessed the sharper skills and ring generalmanship, but the dangerous Ajetovic closed distance and badly the champion in the fifth round. More...
