Saturday night at the Sutton Leisure Centre in St. Helens, England, Promoter Oliver Harrison presented a fight card billed as ‘Blast Zone’ which featured nine contests.

As an added attraction, six boxers of note were introduced into the ring including undefeated middleweight prospect Martin Murray, ex-British welter champ and world title challenger Michael Jennings and former WBC, European and British welterweight champion John H. Stracey.

Scott Mitchell (Bolton) v Howard Daley (Preston)
6 Round Heavyweight Contest

A close contest between these two ‘pals’. Both putting in bags of effort but Mitchell secures the points win 58-56 and improves to 6 wins (0 by KO) and 1 loss. Daley drops to 2 wins (1 by KO), 19 losses (6 by KO) and 1 draw. More...

Last night at ‘The Venue’ in Dudley, England, PJ Rowson and Errol Johnson of First Team Promotions hosted a fight night which provided action from five bouts.

Martin Gordon (Dudley) v Kristian Laight (Nuneaton)
6 x 2 Welterweight Contest

It was a close contest between these two but Gordon had a good round four - possibly because he thought it was a four-round contest!

He kept going though for the next two rounds to secure the points win 58-57 against experienced Laight.

Gordon improves to 2 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws while Laight drops to 6 wins, 66 losses (3 by KO) and 5 draws. More...

Boxing In Britain: Friday Night Results

By Ricky Jones September 19th, 2009 All Boxing Results

It was a good Friday night at the fights all across Britain and we kick things off at historic York Hall in London's Bethnal Green.

Light welters Lenny Daws and Barry Morrison tangled in a rematch for the vacant British title and Daws managed to reverse his 2007 loss to the Scot.

Last time out Morrison squeaked out a split decision to lift the British crown but this time Daws took it away from the judges and knocked out his rival at 1:30 of the tenth frame to capture the vacant domestic belt.

Daws wins his fifth bout on the bounce to go to 20-1-1 (8), while Morrison drops to 17-4-1 (7), suffering the first stoppage loss of his career. More...

It was a full house last night at the packed Brentwood Centre in Essex, England for the Frank Maloney promoted Fightnight headlined by the eagerly awaited contest between John McDermott and Tyson Fury.

The night was billed as ‘Colossal’ with McDermott defending his English Heavyweight title against younger, less experienced Fury.

The atmosphere inside the Brentwood Centre was fantasti ! And dancing along to his entrance music - ‘Tonight’s gonna be a good night’ - Fury, as usual, was clearly enjoying the attention.

Unlike his opponent - a mean looking ‘Big Bad John’ McDermott - who ‘plodded’ down the stairway to the ring. More...

Boxing In Britain: McDermott vs. Fury Reaches Fever Pitch In Essex

By Ricky Jones September 11th, 2009 All Boxing Articles

The tension between John McDermott and rival Tyson Fury was tremendous yesterday at the weigh-in between the two heavyweights, who clash tonight at Brentwood Centre in Essex.

At stake is McDermott's English heavyweight title but many are looking at this bout as a manner of judging the future viability of undefeated prospect Fury's career.

At the weigh-in, McDermott looked to be the fittest of his career and was clearly furious at his towering antagonist, who had waged a typical pre-fight campaign of trash talking. More...

Friday night, at the Velodrome in Manchester, England, Hatton Promotions hosted a fight night which would prove to be an all-action bill culminating in another war from returning Mancunian, Michael Brodie.

Billed as ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, the fight card consisted of seven contests. Encircled by the indoor cycling track, the ring looked impressive with its lighting ‘rig’ and plasma screens.

The main and last fight of the night was well worth the wait! After a break of four years, former featherweight champion Michael Brodie made his come-back last night in spectacular style.

Who could forget the Brodie v. Injin Chi WBA title fights in 2003 and 2004? Last night's fight was in true Brodie-style - another bloody war. More...

Ringside Boxing Report: Dale Miles vs. Robert Kenney

Sunday afternoon at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton-on-Trent, England, PJ Rowson and Errol Johnson of ‘First Team Promotions’ hosted a fight card headlined by a British Masters title clash.

Robert Kenney (Wolverhampton) faced Dale Miles (Alfreton) in the main event for the British Masters Welterweight title.

It was a better start to the fight for Miles, in fact ‘Yam Yam’ Kenney didn’t really ‘pick it up’ during the fight. Miles’s corner shouts at him to ‘target the body!’ And he did land some solid body-shots in round five, which seemed to sap the Wolverhampton man, who has now sustained a cut under the left eye.

Despite Kenney’s corner urging him to go for the body - he didn’t, instead choosing to throw head shots, which weren’t having the effect. Southpaw Miles keeps up the body punches - landing while backing Kenney on the ropes in round six. More...

Last night at Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England, Oliver Harrison hosted a fight night billed as ‘Saints & Sinners: The Best of St. Helens!’ which was headlined by boxers Craig Lyon and Rob Beech from the nearby town of St. Helens. Unfortunately, Lyon’s opponent, Cobina Johnson of Ghana, came in overweight and the bout was called off at the last minute.

But the show thankfully went on and first up, we see the light welterweight clash between Chris Goodwin of Chester and Daniel Thorpe of Sheffield.

It's good contest with Goodwin having to work hard to get the win over a tough Thorpe. Goodwin wins on points 59-56 and improves to 9 wins 1 loss and 1 draw. Veteran Thorpe notched up his 101st fight!

Heavyweight Martin ‘Grid’ Grainger of Heywood faced Jason Callum of Coventry in a four round contest. More...
