Boxing Result: Berto Defeats Urango, Cintron Upsets Angulo

By Alejandro Tostado May 31st, 2009 All Boxing Results

Last night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, FL, Andre Berto retained his WBC welterweight title with a superb points win against challenger Juan Urango.

Urango, the current IBF light welter titlist, employed his trademark pressure approach from the start but had difficulty in finding the target as Berto didn't stick around to be hit.

The champion employed good footwork and showed his cat-quick reflexes in avoiding the tear up that Urango wanted, giving the Colombian challenger a crisp boxing lesson instead.

Berto showed his class in zipping in stinging single shots and sharp counters, mostly upstairs, and controlled the pace enroute to a well deserved 118-110 twice and 117-111 points victory. More...

Boxing Preview Analysis: Andre Berto vs. Juan Urango

By Lee Bellfield May 30th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

Unbeaten Andre Berto continues his run as WBC welterweight champion tonight at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida when defends his crown against two-time IBF light welter champion Juan Urango.

This is the 3rd defence of the title for the 25 year old American. After distance defences against Steve Forbes and Luis Collazo, Berto now meets a man better known as a rugged 140 pounder in Urango.

Berto has 19 KO's in 25 wins. He has fast hands, but on the negative side he did seem to tire in his 12 round win over Collazo.

In Urango, he meets a man who will be in his face all night. Although Urango is the naturally smaller man, Berto will have to be careful with Urango's body punching, which could again slow the champion down.

British fans, of course, will know Urango from his 12 round points defeat against Ricky Hatton back in January, 2007.

If we use that fight as a marker, it was interesting to note that Hatton chose to box carefully when he realised he wasn't going to stop his opponent. In fact, that fight showed Hatton at his most cagey, which says a lot for the danger that Urango threatens. More...

Thursday Night Boxing Results

By Ricky Jones November 29th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Two good cards took place on Thursday and we kick things off in Phitsanulok, Thailand where 23 year old Bangkok southpaw Oleydong Sithsamerchai, 29-0 (12), stayed undefeated while retaining his WBC Minimumweight title on points against longtime PABA Champ Pornsawan Kratindaenggym, 21-2 (16).

30 year old Sa Kaeo based slugger Kratindaenggym had previously only come up short against Donnie Nietes for the vacant WBO belt last year but could not get to grips with the cagey Sithsamerchai, who won on points after twelve rounds.

Yubileiny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia was the site of a big fight card as Baku's Ali Ismailov, 15-1-1 (10), retained the WBO Latino Cruiserweight crown with a third round KO of Argentine visitor Rodolfo De Dominicis, 13-1-1 (10).

World rated Los Angeles based Russian cruiserweight Vadim Tokarev, 26-1-1 (19), stopped American based Cameroonian opponent Manu Ntoh, 17-16-1 (1), in the eighth frame. More...

Erdei, Dzinziruk Keep WBO Boxing Titles In Germany

By Hermann Helmut April 27th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Last night at the Freiberger Arena in Dresden, Germany, WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Zsolt Erdei put on a boxing clinic against challenger DeAndrey Abron, posting a wide points decision over the ambitious American and WBO Light Middle boss Sergiy Dzinziruk managed a hard fought majority decision over Lukas Konecny after twelve rounds.

Erdei, 29-0 (17), needed a rebuilding fight after almost losing his belt to Tito Mendoza last November and got exactly as he patiently dodged the big punching efforts of Abron and picked off his fellow competitor with stinging counters all night long.

It wasn't until the twelfth and final frame that Erdei finally went after Abron, who showed a great deal of heart and toughness in weathering the heaviest shots that the champion could throw to finish the bout on his feet.

"The Firebird" of Budapest won all three scorecards by margins of 119-109, retaining his WBO belt for the tenth time and is looking for a unification bout with IBF/IBO titlist Antonio Tarver. More...
