Boxing In Germany: Huck Retains WBO title Against Afolabi

By Hermann Helmut December 6th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Cruiserweight Marco Huck made a succsssful first defense of his WBO title with a 12 round unanimous decision against Ola Afolabi last night at the Arena in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Afolabi puts his boxing skills to good use early on, picking off the oncoming Huck on the way inside and generally winning the first few rounds.

But as the aggressive Huck closed distance, the pair began to trade punches on the inside and defense went out the window for both combatants.

In the second half of the contest, Huck's superior conditioning provided an edge as he outworked the challenger in a see-saw battle to the end of the 12th round.

When the cards were read, Huck kept his WBO crown on scores of 116-112 and 115-113 twice. The 25 year old from Bielefeld improves to 27-1 (20), while Afolabi drops to 14-2-3 (6). More...

Boxing In Germany: Marco Huck vs. Ola Afolabi Tonight For WBO Title

By Hermann Helmut December 5th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

Tonight at The Arena in Ludwigsburg, Germany, a great clash for the WBO cruiserweight title takes place supported by a solid undercard.

Experienced former European titlist Marco Huck, 26-1 (20), makes the first defense of the WBO belt he won Victor Emilio Ramirez in August but he faces a very dangerous opponent in the form of Ola Afolabi.

Afolabi, 14-1-3 (6), seemingly roared out of nowhere to stop former titlist Enzo Maccarinelli in March and will represent an unpredictable threat to Huck's reign.

The 29 year old London born California resident was losing to Maccarinelli during the clash before he shattered the senses of the big-punching Welshman with a crushing right hand in the ninth frame to capture the Interim WBO title. More...

Boxing In Germany: Abraham Faces Marquez Tonight In Bamberg

By Hermann Helmut November 8th, 2008 All Boxing Previews

Tonight at the Jako Arena in Bamberg, IBF Middleweight Champion Arthur Abraham puts his belts on the line against former IBF Light Middle titlist Raul Marquez on a bill that also includes the vacant IBF Intercontinental Cruiserweight title matchup between Otis Griffin and Enad Licina.

Abraham, 27-0 (22), had to pull out of a previously scheduled clash with Marquez, 41-3-1 (29), due to illness and but looked to be in rude health at yesterday's weigh-in and appears to be fully prepared for tonight's contest.

Marquez won the right to challenge Arthur with a close points verdict over previously unbeaten prospect Giovanni Lorenzo in June but it's unlikely that the 37 year old southpaw will come out the winner in this contest with Abraham.

The sometime TV announcer had his heyday 11 years ago as IBF 154 pound champion and has since failed to beat the top flight men he's faced since that time including Yory Boy Campas, Fernando Vargas, Shane Mosley and Jermain Taylor.

That's not to say that Marquez cannot defeat Abraham, but it will be very difficult for the aging Houston based Mexican to pull this one off. More...
