Boxing Result: Edwin Valero Wins WBC Title Amid Night Of Upsets

By Richard Eberline April 5th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Edwin Valero continued the most impressive KO streak in boxing last night at the Frank Erwin Centre in Austin, Texas, moving to to lightweight and stopping heavy-handed Colombian danger man Antonio Pitalua to win the vacant WBC title.

The Venezuelan southpaw had made four defenses of the WBA Super Feather crown and was going up in weight against tough customer Pitalua but any questions as to whether Valero's power would follow were soon dispelled as Pitalua was finished off in the second frame.

In the first round, Valero established his control over the bout's pace, using a busy offense to force Pitalua onto the defensive and using good footwork to avoid trouble when Pitalua did thow anything.

Valero and Pitalua traded big shots as the first came to a close, the only exchange thus far into the bout. More...

Boxing Perspective: When Will Manny Pacquiao Fight Ricky Hatton?

By Jose Espinoza July 16th, 2008 All Boxing Articles

On June 28, 2008, Pacquiao defeated with ease the reigning WBC Lightweight Champion David Diaz. It was a fight that most reporters saw as a clinic for Pacquiao, who dominated the entire bout.

Diaz was mangled and could not go on past the ninth round. And so, the question that many are asking is: what is next for Manny? And the answer lies with several possibilities.

Many reports have been saying that Hatton is targeting a future bout with the boxer from the Philippines. Before that happens however, Hatton still has to face Paulie Malignaggi later on this year.

If Hatton is victorious against Malignaggi, then his final fight could be against Pacquiao. Hatton has said that he wants to fight two more times before he retires from the sport.

According to the Associated Press, Hatton gave an interview in which he stated: "In the New Year, I'm hoping to fight either Manny Pacquiao or Oscar de la Hoya at Wembley Stadium in front of 100,000 people and after that I'll probably retire”. More...

Boxing In Japan: Valero, Hasegawa Retain World Titles In Tokyo

By Danny Wilson June 14th, 2008 All Boxing Results

WBA Super Feather kingpin Edwin Valero and WBC Bantamweight Champion Hozumi Hasegawa were in action at the Nihon Budokan in Tokyo on Thursday night and both retained their titles.

Valero, 24-0 (24), kept his magnificent knockout streak alive with a seventh round pasting of former Japanese Lightweight titlist Takehiro Shimada, 22-4-1 (15).

Shimada used his considerable experience to evade the brunt of the Venezuelan southpaw's firepower and was only down by two rounds on one of the scorecards but the 36 year's luck ran out at 1:55 of the seventh frame when Valero found the target with a crisp right hook, straight left combination to the head.

Valero retains his title for the fourth time and continues his campaign to engage Manny Pacquiao in a high profile showdown but the multi-weight Filipino legend is on a trajectory to face world light welter champ Ricky Hatton later this year. More...
