Female Boxing Debut: Emily Klinefelter

ByBoxing Press 21/02/200821/02/2008

Let’s Get It On Promotions is excited to announce that decorated amateur boxing star Emily Klinefelter will make her pro debut on the Otis Griffin/Jesse Brinkley card in Reno, NV.

Since beginning her boxing career six years ago, 22 year old Emily Klinefelter has won 13 senior national titles, more than any other U.S. woman, including the 2003, 2004, and 2006 U.S. Championships, 2003 – 2006 PAL National Championships, 2002 – 2005 Ringside World Championships, and the 2005 and 2006 National Golden Gloves. She has also won gold medals at the 2004 Women’s World Invitational Tournament in Taiwan (110 pounds) and the 2006 Pan American Games in Argentina (119 pounds).

After winning her first bout on March 31, 2001, she managed to rack up 60 victories in her amateur career, including the last six U.S. tournaments in which she’s participated. She has represented the United States boxing in Russia, Sweden, Norway, Taiwan, Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, and India.

Emily was ranked #1 in the U.S. at 110 pounds during 2003 and 2004, accumulating more ranking points than any woman in any weight division. She was named the Women’s Boxing Archive Network’s (WBAN)(www.womenboxing.com) 2004 amateur boxer of the year. Emily was the first senior Iowan, male or female, to win the U.S. National Championships tournament.

Emily moved up from 110 to 119 pounds (bypassing 114) in 2005 , but still managed to win Ringside, PAL, Golden Gloves and the 2006 US National Championships, achieving boxing’s grand slam, winning all 4 tournaments in a row, something no woman has ever done.

In 2006, Emily won all three rankings tournaments: U.S. Championships (defeated two former champions), Golden Gloves, and PAL (9-0), as well as the gold medal at the Pan Am Games. She was named the tournament’s outstanding female boxer at the PAL.

Emily once again finished the year ranked #1 in the nation, accumulating more rankings points than any other top ranked woman at any other weight class, the third time in her career she has achieved that feat. The Women’s Boxing Archive Network (WBAN)(womenboxing.com) named Emily the top U.S. amateur in 2006.

Emily is not only an excellent boxer, but an intelligent student. She graduated with the University of Iowa’s class of 2006 with highest distinction and a 4.0 GPA from the College of Business. She is also fluent in Spanish, and will be returning to the university in 2007 to pursue a masters in accounting and to complete an additional degree in Spanish.

Emily currently serves as an athlete representative on Iowa Amateur Boxing’s Board of Directors.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling the Silver Legacy box office 800 687 8733. Prices are $30, $75, and $150. Doors will open at 6, first bout at 7. Under-card information will be announced shortly. All bouts are subject to change.

Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]
