Thursday night at the Dublin City University in Ireland, Frank Maloney hosted a fight night billed as ʽOut to Conquer the World!ʼ which would showcase Irish Olympic Bronze Medal winner Darren Sutherland in his first professional contest.

Also on the bill - Rendall Munroe defended his European Super Bantamweight title against Italyʼs Fabrizio Trotta and Jason Booth defended his Commonwealth Bantamweight title against Sean Hughes.

The ʽBoxing Binmanʼ - Rendall Munroe - entered the ring wearing his trademark luminous green tabbard. A smattering of the reflective jackets could be seen around the University Sports Hall as some of Munroeʼs fans had made the trip across to Ireland. Even Rendallʼs father sitting ringside was wearing the same Binman-style tabbard over his suit.

A smiley Trotta - nicknamed ʽPopeyeʼ - was keen to introduce himself to Munroe but ʽ2Toneʼ was keeping focussed in the corner. More...

Ringside Boxing Report: Rendall Munroe vs. Fabrizio Trotta

By Jane Warburton December 19th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Last night at Dublin City University in Dublin, Ireland, Frank Maloney put on an impressive fightnight that saw Rendall Munroe sweep away the challenge of Fabrizio Trotta and Olympic hero Darren Sutherland make his pro-debut.

European super bantam champ Munroe of Leicester, England was pressed hard by the Italian in the early rounds and the "Boxing Binman" took a few hard shots until he found his rhythm in the third.

That round saw him take control and punish Trotta with hard-nosed body shots that took the steam out of the challenger. By the fourth Trotta was in difficulty and was pulled out in the fifth after claiming an injured right hand.

Munroe keeps the European title and sees his record to 17-1 (8).

Sutherland looked sharp in his first pro fight, delighting the crowd at his former university by battering Georgi Iliev around the ring before finishing off the Bulgarian in the closing seconds of the first frame. More...

Boxing In France: Weekend Results

By Ricky Jones June 30th, 2008 All Boxing Results

There were two good cards in République française over the weekend and we start on Saturday's action at Salle L'Albanais in Rumilly where local man Sebastien Madani upset reigning French Light Middleweight Champion Alban Mothie over twelve rounds.

Madani followed up his WBC Mediterranean title winning effort in December with his 18th consecutive victory in front of a raging hometown crowd in this mountainous town in the French Alps, just 50 miles from Geneva, Switzerland.

Turning up in fantastic physical shape, Madani never let the champion into fight as he pressed Mothie and kept the Châtellerault man on the defensive for the entire bout despite Mothie's best efforts to reverse the tide.

After a cautious first round, the early part of the contest saw Madani force Mothie onto the backfoot behind a torrent of hooks and while the champion managed to slip most of the shots, there were a good many that found the mark.

The sixth frame saw Madani swarm over Mothie and hurt the champion, who had to draw upon his long experience to survive before backing off the challenger by round's end. More...
