Boxing Result: Sylvester Defeats Lorenzo To Capture IBF Crown In Germany

By Hermann Helmut September 20th, 2009 All Boxing Results

After two tours of duty as European champion and a shot at the WBA belt, Sebastian Sylvester clawed his way to a world title tonight at Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenberg, Germany.

The 29 year old local man, nicknamed "Hurrikan", started fast as expected against opponent Giovanni Lorenzo of New York but had difficulty navigating the distance Lorenzo maintained during the early rounds.

The American based visitor repeatedly picked off the German with sharp punches and seemed to be on the way to controlling the contest until Sylvester's pressure began to pay off. More...

Boxing In Germany: IBF Title Fight In Neubrandenburg Tonight

By Hermann Helmut September 19th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

Big show tonight at Neubrandenburg's Jahnsportforum with the vacant IBF middleweight belt and the European Union heavyweight strap on offer.

Ready to rip for Arthur Abraham's vacanted IBF crown are two-time European kingpin Sebastian "Hurrikan" Sylvester, 31-3 (15), and Giovanni Lorenzo, 27-1 (19).

Greifswald based Sylvester had a shot at the big time last November but failed to lift Felix Sturm's WBA trophy in a brave 12 round effort and currently holds the IBF International title.

Lorenzo makes the trip all the way from New York, having won an IBF title eliminator by knocking out Dionisio Miranda in two this past February after narrowly losing to Raul Marquez in 2008. More...

Boxing In Germany: Povetkin Beats Estrada In Dusseldorf

By Hermann Helmut April 5th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Heavyweight hopeful Alexander Povetkin continued down the path toward a world title shot last night by handling the challenge posed by American visitor Jason Estrada at Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf.

The early rounds were fairly even as the pair mostly jabbed and studied but each enjoyed sporadic success with hard single shots on occasion.

The middle rounds got rougher as Povetkin and Estrada hammered away at each other during the constant clinching. As Povetkin began to get more aggressive, he succeeded in breaking through Estrada's defense but was also getting picked off cleanly by the American on many occasions. More...

By Hermann Helmut April 4th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

There are a few good shows on the continent tonight, with the bill at Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf, Germany taking centre stage.

The card is headlined by a European Union Heavyweight title battle between Germany based Italian southpaw Francesco Pianeta, 18-0 (11), and England based Pole, Albert Sosnowski, 44-2 (27).

Pianeta has been on a good winning streak over the last year, putting the first loss on American prospect Mike Marrone's record for the WBC Youth title before winning the EU crown when Welshman Scott Gammer injured a hand in the eighth frame.

The 24 year old Gelsenkirschen resident spoiled another perfect record while retaining his belt by decisioning Johann Duhaupas in December. More...

Two-time WBA heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz, 43-8-1 (29), as well as his advisor/attorney Tony Cardinale and head trainer Manny Siaca, Sr., believe they faced sizable unfair disadvantages August 30 fighting Nikolai Valuev, 49-1 (34), for the WBA heavyweight title in Berlin.

Valuev recaptured the WBA belt by way of a 12-round decision clouded in controversy. Team Ruiz is demanding a full videotape of Valuev-Ruiz II to further review for evidence of alleged corrupt practices.

By Hermann Helmut May 18th, 2008 All Boxing Results

World class cruiserweight Marco Huck won his second bout in a row following his failed bid to unseat IBF Champion Steve Cunningham last December with a ninth round stoppage of big punching Slovakian International Champion Frantisek Kasanic, 12-3 (12), at the Oberfrankenhalle in Bayreuth.
