‘Giacobbe Fragomeni’

Boxing In Germany: Erdei, Tajbert Win WBC Belts, Sartison Gets WBA In Kiel

By Hermann Helmut November 22nd, 2009 All Boxing Results

There was a massive show at Sparkassen Arena in Kiel last night with three world title belts at risk.

The big winner was Zsolt Erdei who moved up a weight class to unseat reigning WBC cruiser champion Giacobbe Fragomeni by majority decision.

Hungarian Erdei had held the WBO light heavy belt for 11 successful defenses over five years but saw 40 year old Fragomeni as vulnerable despite the 25 pound weight differential.

Italy's Fragomeni won the WBO crown during a technical decision over Rudolf Kraj last year but was held to a draw by ex-IBF titlist Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in May in which iron-chinned Fragomeni was floored, a rare occurrence. More...

By Boxing Press November 10th, 2009 All Press Releases

By Per Ake Persson

So was ex-heavyweight champ Nikolai Valuev exposed by David Haye and before that by Evander Holyfield and Ruslan Chagaev as "just" a giant, incapable of boxing? Some seem to think so, not me though. I think it´s a case of a fighter who´s getting old, simple as that. More...

Boxing Result: Fragomeni Keeps WBC Title On Draw With Wlodarczyk

By Hermann Helmut May 17th, 2009 All Boxing Results

The WBC Cruiserweight title remained with Giacobbe Fragomeni tonight after 12 rounds of combat at the Gran Teatro in Rome, Italy with ex-IBF champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

The champion started out strong, going after the taller Polish challenger and picking up rounds behind a good two-handed assault as Wlodarczyk gave ground and made Fragomeni expend a lot of energy.

The tactic paid off as the 39 year old Italian was spent after the midway point and Wlodarczyk turned the tide, punishing the weary champion. More...

By Hermann Helmut May 16th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

WBC Cruiserweight Champion Giacobbe Fragomeni puts his world title belt on the line for the first time when he meets ex-IBF Champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk at the Gran Teatro tonight in Rome.

And at age 39, Fragomeni doesn't have any time to waste.

The Milan based hard man gave European champion David Haye all he could handle in 2006 before a ninth round cuts stoppage and Fragomeni is the favorite to turn back the ambitions of his Polish opponent tonight in Italy's largest city. More...

By Ricky Jones October 25th, 2008 All Boxing Results

39 year old European Union titlist Giacobbe Fragomeni turned back the clock last night to top previously undefeated WBC International beltholder Rudolf Kraj for the vacant WBC Cruiserweight Championship after the bout was stopped in the ninth frame at the Pala Lido in Milan, Italy.

Local man Fragomeni, 26-1 (10), who had previously lost only to then European Champion David Haye in 2006, suffered a severe laceration from an unintentional headbutt and the bout went to the cards after eight rounds.

Hamburg, Germany based Czech boxer Kraj, 14-1 (10), was behind on all three scorecards, 77-74, and loses on a technical decision.

On the undercard, Simona Galassi, 9-0-1 (3), retained her WBC Female Flyweight title with a unanimous decision over Stefania Bianchini, 17-4-3 (2), in a rematch between two of Italy's most popular fighters.
