Ringside Boxing Report: Matthew Hatton Vs Lovemore N’Dou

By Jane Warburton November 16th, 2009 All Ringside Boxing

On Friday night at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke on Trent, England, Hatton Promotions hosted a fightnight which would see Mathew Hatton face South African born Champion Lovemore N’Dou for the first defence of the IBO Welterweight Title which N’Dou won in July this year.

Bearing an impressive 59 fight record with 47 wins and 31 of those being by way of knockout – The Black Panther had faced a number of ‘quality’ opponents. This would be a big step-up for 'Magic' Hatton – a World Title win would propel him ‘out of the shadow’ of brother Ricky.

A packed Fenton Manor gave huge support to Mancunian Hatton but boo’d when Champion N’Dou entered the ring.

It was a close first round, with Hatton keeping busy but missing shots as N’Dou dips low. Both men start to settle in during the second round. N’Dou throws a decent swinging left to the cheek of Hatton – his punches are heavy, thudding blows.

Hatton sustains a cut to the left brow in the final minute of the round. N’Dou throws a right to the head of Hatton who counters with a good right hook (almost an uppercut) which lands on target. More...

Boxing Result: Lovemore N’dou vs. Matthew Hatton

By Ricky Jones November 14th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Last night at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke, England, IBO welterweight champion Lovemore N'dou and challenger Matthew Hatton fought to a draw.

38 year old N'dou hadn't been able to spar during training camp due to a cut suffered earlier and inactivity since his title winning effort in July against Phillip N'dou showed up as a lack of offense the early rounds.

Hatton went on the attack in response to N'dou's reticence but the 28 year old Manchester man wasn't able to land anything of significance. More...

Yesterday at Hatton Health & Fitness Centre in Hyde, England, Hatton Promotions hosted the official weigh-in ahead of this evening's fight night staged at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent, England.

It was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the smart new surroundings of the Hatton 'centre', where Hatton would weigh-in alongside N'Dou for the IBO welterweight title.

Hatton stepped up to the scales first - weighing in at 147 lb followed by N'Dou, who tipped the scales at 145 lb.

Both men were quiet as they posed for the usual 'face-off' photographs. More...

Ricky Hatton's younger brother, Matthew Hatton, takes on former IBF light welter titleholder Lovemore N’dou tonight at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke, England for the IBO welterweight title.

The last us Brits would have seen of both of these fighters would have been on the undercard of the Ricky Hatton vs Juan Lazcano fight in May of last year.

N’dou fought IBF light welter champ at the time Paul Malignaggi in a rematch, losing via a split decision while Hatton faced Craig Watson for the Commonwealth welter title, losing via a unanimous decision.

Since that loss, Hatton has had four fights, one of them being Ted Bami, another, South African hardman and older brother Ricky's former victim Ben Tackie. More...

Boxing Perspective: British Fighters Turning Promoter

By Nick Chamberlain August 24th, 2009 All Boxing Articles

When Oscar De La Hoya walked away from the sport of boxing in April, 2009, he only walked away as a fighter, and in doing so left his own individual legacy he had forged over 17 years.

17 world champions had fallen before him, he had won 10 world titles in six different weight classes and had earned a huge - and I mean astronomical - amount of money; pay per view alone figures are reportedly estimated around $696 million.

Yes, it is safe to say that Oscar did all right for himself; in fact, it is fair to say he has probably generated more money than any other boxer in the history of the sport.

With the Golden Boy name still ringing out after all these years, we still think of Oscar whenever we hear it.

When you hear it now though, it could be because you are watching one of the fighters Golden Boy owns, from the super famous and well respected i.e. Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez; to the up and coming prospects i.e. Victor Ortiz, Danny Garcia or Erislandy Lara.

It could be because you are sat at a MMA event that Golden Boy collaborated on, or an article you might be reading in The Ring magazine or one of the many publications that Golden Boy own.

What Oscar has done has transcended way beyond the realms of boxer turned promoter. At one point, he was boxer and promoter, for his own fights, which always stuck me as humorous as no one stepped forward during the Oscar vs. Manny Pacquiao fight to stop it…well, that was everyone's boss in there…would you have wanted to?
