Boxing In America: Friday Night Results

By Richard Eberline January 24th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Welterweight Holly Holm was in action last night at her stomping grounds of the Isleta Casino in Albuquerque, NM where the 27 year old southpaw defeated opponent Myriam Lamare on points after ten rounds of combat.

The local southpaw retained her WIBF title in a difficult battle with French slugger Lamare, a former WBA Light Welter Champion who had only come up short in world title fights against the world's top light welter, Anne Sophie Mathis.

Holm saw things go her way early on as she put her greater height and reach to good use, keeping her 34 year old Continental foe at arm's length.

But Lamare's persistence paid off in the later rounds as she closed distance and found the champion with a lot of shots but Holm's early lead proved too much to overcome as she swept the cards by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94. More...

By Richard Eberline June 14th, 2008 All Boxing Results

After a massive media buildup, the "Finally" PPV bill at the Isleta Casino in Albuquerque, NM was fought last night amid great fanfare for Women's Boxing.

In the main event, IFBA Light Middleweight Champ Holly Holm, 22-1-2 (6), proved just too big and skilled for challenger Mary Joe Sanders, 25-1 (8), as Holm won nearly every round to hand Sanders her first loss.

Wendy Rodriguez, 19-4-3 (3), won the vacant IFBA and IBA titles at minimumweight with a ten round split decision over Hollie Dunaway, 21-7 (10), in a rematch between the two.

Carina Moreno, 18-1 (5), defeated Eileen Olszewski, 5-1-1 (0), over ten rounds for the vacant IFBA Light Flyweight strap and Chevelle Hallback, 27-5-2 (11), outpointed Jeannine Garside, 7-1-1 (3), to cage the vacant IFBA Lightweight crown.
