Last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV, Manny Pacquiao made a mockery of the lengthy pre-fight buildup with opponent Ricky Hatton, turning what had been promoted as a titanic battle of light welterweight warriors into a one-sided hammering that ended with Hatton KO'd before he even hit the canvas in the second round.
Hatton had started the contest strong, backing up southpaw Pacquiao and looking to make the bout into the kind of close quarters brawl in which he excels.
But once Pacquiao began to punch back, he had no difficulty in finding the target and soon Hatton was decked from a short counter right hook.
The Englishman didn't look hurt and beat the count with no problems and resumed his heavy pressure upon his rival
but shortly afterward was floored again when a left hand connected flush. More...

Last night at Plaza de Toros in Tijuana, Mexico, WBO Super Flyweight Champion Fernando Montiel, 39-2-1 (29), made the successful jump to bantamweight, capturing the interim WBO crown at 118 pounds by knocking out Argentina's Diego Oscar Silva, 24-2-3 (12), in the third round.
Montiel was in control the whole way, canvassing Silva in the second and at the start of the third before finishing the job at 2:24 of the third round.
In a WBC Super Feather title clash, reigning champion Humberto Soto, 47-7-2 (30), was dominant against challenger Antonio Davis, 26-5 (13), dropping the American in the first and twice in the fourth before forcing the bout to be stopped at 2:38 of the fourth frame when Davis could no longer defend himself. There's a good fight card tonight at Plaza De Toros right across the US/Mexico border in Tijuana as the WBO Bantam and WBC Super Feather belts will be up for grabs.
In the main event, longtime WBO Super Flyweight Champ Fernando Montiel, 38-2-1 (28), will try again to make the move up to bantam and contend for the WBO crown at 118 pounds.
The 30 year old Los Mochis man was turned back in his effort to do the same three years ago when defeated on a split decision by Jhonny Gonzalez.
This time, Montiel will tangle with WBO Latino, South American and Argentine Bantam titlist Diego Oscar Silva, 24-1-3 (12), of Buenos Aires. More...

Six months after their well-documented first bout ended in a fiasco, super featherweights Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo went at it again, this time for the vacant WBC title, at Parque Andres Quintana Roo in Cozumel, Mexico.
The much shorter Lorenzo came out strong, backing up Soto and enjoying a few good moments in the first frame, landing overhand rights but was also clipped with sharp counters from Soto for his efforts.
With each successive round, Soto became more effective at picking off the oncoming Lorenzo but the Mexican allowed his Dominican opponent to stay in the bout by slugging it out rather than using his height and reach advantage to good effect by boxing.
Soto fought Lorenzo's fight and the action wasn't pretty. Lorenzo found the target plenty of times to be sure but was decked and hurt on more than one occasion and didn't help his cause in losing two points for infractions.
But the outcome was really never in doubt as Soto outclassed his opponent to win the vacant WBC title by scores of 118-108 and 117-109 twice, improving to 46-7-2 (29). Lorenzo falls to 33-5 (14) after mounting a far better performance than during the first bout with Soto. More...

Their first fight took on a farcical nature when Francisco Lorenzo defeated Humberto Soto by fourth round disqualification in June despite absorbing a tremendous beating along the way.
Such was the controversy of the bout's ending that the WBC decided not to award Lorenzo the Interim Super Featherweight title that had been on offer to the winner when the pair met this past June in Las Vegas.
A rematch takes place tonight at Parque Andres Quintana Roo in Cozumel, Mexico between Tijuana based Soto, 45-7-2 (29), and New Jersey based Lorenzo, 33-4 (14), originally of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
This bout will likely be as uncompetitive as the first clash as Lorenzo at 37 years of age has seen his day come and go and that just won't do against a hard-nosed competitor like Soto, who is still in his prime at 27.

Less than four months after his controversial disqualification against Francisco Lorenzo, super featherweight Humberto Soto captured the vacant WBC title with a smashing effort against Gamaliel Diaz last night at Auditorio Centenario in Torreon, Mexico.
Having already crushed Rocky Juarez's unbeaten record in 2005 and chased then WBO titlist Joan Guzman all over the ring last year, Soto, 45-7-2 (29), followed up his dominating performance against Lorenzo with a superb dismantling of Diaz.
Diaz, who was KO'd by WBC Featherweight Champion Jorge Linares late last year, never had a chance against one of the top super feathers in the business as Soto went to work right away and canvassed the Nezahualcoyotl resident in the first round.
From that point on it was a one-sided contest and Diaz showed a lot of heart to survive until the tenth round when referee Laurence Cole took two points away for holding. Soto was likely on the verge of a knockout and Team Diaz elected not to send their man out for the eleventh frame.
Soto moves to 45-7-2 (29) and becomes the new WBC Super Featherweight Champion while Diaz drops to 23-8-2 (10), losing the second of his last three bouts.
There were two good bouts on the undercard as Brazilian slugger Carlos Nascimento, 21-1 (18), caged the vacant WBC Latino Light Middleweight belt by forcing a third round referee stoppage of veteran Ulises Duarte, 16-19-1 (18). More...
