Friday night at the Bolton Arena in Bolton, England, Frank Maloney promoted a fight night headlined by three title bouts, billed as ‘War of the Roses’.
Salford boxer Jamie Moore faced Ryan Rhodes of Sheffield for the European light middleweight title, St.Helens boxer Gary Davies made the first defence of his British bantamweight title against Londoner Ian Napa and Stoke‘s Chris Edwards made his second defence of the British flyweight title against Mongolian-born Shinny Bayaar.
Jamie Moore (Salford) v Ryan Rhodes (Sheffield)
12 x 3 European Light Middleweight Title
Reigning European champion Moore starts off busy from the first bell, keeping former two-time British light middleweight champion Rhodes on the back foot. Rhodes - having the shorter reach - just misses his target a few times with sweeping shots.
Moore dominates from centre of ring, while Rhodes struggles to settle in to this first round. The Sheffield man goes for the body of ‘Mooresy’ but Moore looks determined, ploughing through with more punches - landing a hard shot which rocks Rhodes’ head from side to side. More...

It was the rare domestic bout with far reaching and possibly world level implications last night at Bolton Arena in Bolton, England and the European light middle title clash between champion Jamie Moore and Ryan Rhodes lived up to all expectations.
Southpaw Moore took the initiative in the early going, advancing on his older opponent and scoring with single shots that caught the normally fleet-footed switch-hitter.
Rhodes handled the pressure and punches well as he began to get the timing of Moore's efforts and answer back with return fire.
As the first few rounds began to develop into the middle frames, the action began to heat up with both men enjoying success but Moore continued to control the action, adding energy sapping body shots to his mix of offense. More...

A mouthwatering and fascinating clash takes this place this tonight at the Bolton Arena in Bolton, England when Salford's Jamie Moore defends his European 154 pound title against Sheffield's Ryan Rhodes.
As well as being a clash for European honours, it is also probable that the winner will fight an official eliminator for the WBC title currently held by Sergio Martinez.
Rhodes is a 14 year veteran of the squared circle. Beginning his career as a light middleweight, he won the British title at only 20 years of age, defeating the equally prodigious Paul Silky Jones in eight back in 1996.
Just one year later, Rhodes moved up to middleweight and came so close to winning the WBO title in December 1997, losing a narrow 12 round decision against Otis Grant. This is the same Grant who would go on to challenge a peak Roy Jones Jnr a year later for the light heavyweight crown.
After such a promising start to his pro career, things went downhill for the Spice Boy when he was KO'd in two rounds by Jason Matthews in another bid for WBO honours in July, 1999.
After that, Rhodes seemed to have disappeared altogether from the world scene. In reality, the next six years were largely spent fighting four and six rounders either on undercards or small boxing shows. More...

Last night at Crowtree Leisure Centre in Sunderland, England, Frank Maloney hosted a fight night which would feature three title fights and one title eliminator.
The event - billed as ‘Fighting on Home Soil’ was headlined by Jamie Moore, Rendall Munroe and Danny Williams. There would also be a British Light Middleweight title eliminator between Sam Webb and Thomas McDonagh, and Tony Jeffries would fight in front of a home-crowd as he took on German boxer Roy Meissner.
With a total of eleven contests, last night would prove to be an exciting-all action evening - not least because it would provide the lead-up for Sky Sports viewers to the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas.
It might not have been the MGM Grand - but the 1600 fans crammed into the Sunderland venue were looking forward to a great night of boxing - and they weren’t disappointed! More...

European Light Middleweight Champion Jamie Moore retained his title for the first time by smashing the challenge of Roman Dzuman in the second round at Crow Tree Leisure Centre in Sunderland, England.
Just as in his title winning effort against Michele Piccirillo two month ago, Moore was simply on fire, pounding through the defenses of his Ukrainian opponent in the first frame before dropping Dzuman twice in the second with shattering body shots to produce a stoppage.
The 30 year old Salford southpaw improves to 32-3 (23) while Dzuman loses his third straight, and second European title challenge, to drop to 23-7-1 (10).
The big undercard saw a raft of important clashes as British Heavyweight Champion Danny Williams, 41-7 (31), again had mixed success against opponent John McDermott, 25-5 (16), posting a split decision win after the majority decision result last July. More...

A good fight card takes place tonight at Crow Tree Leisure Centre in Sunderland, England headlined by Jamie Moore's maiden European Light Middle title defense against Ukraine's Roman Dzuman.
Moore, 31-3 (22), finally got an opportunity to fight for the European crown two months ago after years of false starts and the 30 year old Salford southpaw simply tore through ex-IBF Welter and two-time former European light middle ruler Michele Picirillo, who was knocked out in two rounds.
Moore rarely has big fights this close together but wasn't taxed very hard by Piccirillo and should be in good fighting shape in tonight's defense against Dzuman.
Dzuman, 23-6-1 (10), has some names on his resume that will be recognizable by British fans during his nine year career at welter and light middle, including Jawaid Khaliq, James Hare, Jozsef Matolcsi, Eugenio Monteiro and Vladimir Khodokovski. More...

Friday night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England Frank Maloney promoted a fight night which was headlined by the clash between Jamie Moore and Michele Piccirillo, as they fought for the vacant European Light Middleweight title. Salford man Moore won the title on a third round TKO over Italian Piccirillo.
But there was some great undercard action which also saw the second fight from Irish Bronze Olympic Medallist Darren Sutherland as he took on Belarusian Siarhei Navarka in a six round super middleweight contest.
In the opening half of the round, Sutherland lands a number of head punches which sees Navarkaʼs face already reddened from the blows. Keeping up the pace, ʽDazʼ whips out the left and straight rights and though Navarka keeps his gloves up and head down, Sutherlands punches get through.
Round two and Sutherland stays busy, continuing to use the jab which rocks back the head of the Belarusian with some regularity now. More...

Friday night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England Frank Maloney promoted a fight night headlined by the clash between Jamie Moore of Salford, Manchester, and Italian Michele Piccirillo, as they slugged it out for the vacant European Light Middleweight title.
Southpaw ‘Mooresy’ whips out the left straight away while a more cautious Piccirillo susses him out. Mid-way through the frame, Moore catches Piccirillo with a double left to the face and the Italian's head rocks back from the blows.
Moore sticks in a sweet left hook to the body and the Italian ‘feels it’. A straight right lands to the chin of Piccirillo in the last half-minute and the Italian looks fazed and unsettled. More...

Tonight, Jamie Moore could realize the potential he first saw come to fruition with a British and Commonwealth title win in 2003 as he contends for the European title.
Moore, 30-3 (21), meets Italy's former IBF Welterweight Champion Michele Piccirillo, 50-4 (21), for the vacant European Light Middleweight title on a Frank maloney promotion at Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England.
For Moore, it's been an excruciating wait for a chance to win the Continental crown as the Salford southpaw has seen scheduled clashes for the belt go down in flames through a kaleidoscope of injury, business politics and just plain bad luck.
The 30 year old Manchester area hero first shot to prominence in 2003 when he put the first loss on towering Liverpool man Michael Jones' record, winning Jones' Commonwealth title along with the British belt in a masterful display of educated pressure and sheer toughness.
Title defense stoppages of Gary Logan, Andrew Facey and Adam Katumwa followed suit and by June of 2004, Moore looked to be an unstoppable express bearing down on the European title and the world rankings. More...
