The WBC light heavyweight belt will remain in Montreal following Jean Pascal’s victory over Silvio Branco on Friday at the Bell Centre.
The bout ultimately ended at 2:19 in the 10th round when Branco’s trainer threw the towel after seeing his fighter knocked down and in bad form from Pascal’s strong hits to the head.
Pascal was able to knock down Branco twice in the tenth round with strong combinations to the Italian's upper body. This bout was a showcase for Pascal, who won the fight convincingly by throwing strong punches in close and using his speedy jab at points when the slower and less mobile Branco stepped out.
The 26-year-old Pascal won the WBC light heavyweight belt with a 12-round unanimous decision over rival Montreal fighter Adrian Diaconu on June 19. More...

At the Bell Centre in boxing mad Montreal last night, Jean Pascal put his WBC light heavyweight belt at risk for the first time and came away with victory against seasoned warhorse Silvio Branco.
A pro since 1988, ex-WBA and European champ Branco went after the much younger Pascal early on but had difficulty with the good footwork and swift reflexes of the local Montreal man, who cut the Italian in the third.
The bout was a cautious affair early on but as both began to tire and settle in, the action increased with Pascal beginning to target the body and Branco looking for the jab, right hand combination.
By the seventh, 43 year old Branco had begin to run out of steam and was dropped in what could have been largely a push or even a bid to gain a breather, although it was ruled a knockdown. More...

There are few boxers in the business who have the charisma and ability that Jean Pascal demonstrates. The 26 year-old fighter from Montreal is living the life and enjoying every minute of his well deserved fame.
No one will forget Pascal’s form against Carl Froch in a WBC super middleweight title contest that is still being talked about as one of England’s best fights of the year.
Unfortunately for Pascal, he lost the fight but won the respect of many boxing fans and established a name for himself as a fearless fighter.
During the summer, Pascal won the WBC light heavyweight belt from an undefeated Adrian Diaconu by unanimous decision.
On September 25, 2009, Jean Pascal will face Italy’s Silvio Branco at the Bell Centre in Montreal. This will be Pascal’s first title defence and he is looking in great physical form, with lighting fast movement and a good hard punch. More...

14,000 boxing fans packed the Bell Centre in Montreal last night to witness what had been called the biggest fight in Canadian history as WBC light heavyweight champ Adrian Diaconu put his belt at risk against local crosstown rival Jean Pascal.
Challenger Pascal was coming up from super middle and it was unknown whether or not he'd be able to mix with a full fledged light heavy.
With a round it became clear that Pascal's fight plan was to avoid just such close quarters combat as he employed his height, reach and quickness advantages to keep Diaconu at the end of the jab.
Unable to cut off the ring and corner the fleet-footed challenger, Diaconu ate a lot of leather from the quick shots of Pascal. More...

The Great White North sees a good evening of boxing with two shows tonight in Montreal, with the primary focus on the light welterweight unification clash between WBC Champion Timothy Bradley and WBO Champion Kendall Holt at the Bell Centre.
Bradley, 23-0 (11), is the favorite in this one but given the mercurial nature of Holt, 25-2 (13), it could go either way before the dust finally settles.
Of the two combatants, Holt has faced the better competition in the form of Ricardo Torres, David Diaz, Isaac Hlatswayo, Mike Arnaoutis, Demetrious Hopkins and Ben Tackie.
But Holt struggled against a well past his prime Tackie and looked to be on the verge of getting KO'd in the first round by Torres in their rematch before an accidental clash of heads knocked Torres senseless, enabling Holt to finish the job moments later.
As an undefeated fighter, Bradley has been the more successful but the Californian also hasn't faced top level opponents aside from his WBC title winning effort against Junior Witter. More...

On Saturday, December 6, the main event in boxing proved to be the one sided fight between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya. However, in Nottingham, England, one of the very best bouts of the year took place.
Jean Pascal of Montreal lost a unanimous 12 round decision to Carl Froch, in a contest that surpassed expectations for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight title.
Both Pascal and Froch entered the ring as unbeaten champions. Both had strong collateral to their names, Pascal had the prestigious NABF title while Froch held the respected Commonwealth Championship. After the fight, Froch called out Calzaghe, the previous owner of the WBC belt, in hopes of luring him out of retirement and having a lucrative super fight.
However, the reality of the matter is that Froch will probably meet Jermain Taylor or Lucien Bute as his next opponent. At the other corner, Pascal looked stunned by the judgeʼs decision. This loss cost Pascal a shot at Jermain Taylor, the WBC belt and the possible money associated with a victory. When Pascal arrived in Montreal, the fans were waiting for him and cheered him on. In fact, the city rallied behind Pascal, whoʼs future looks hopeful.
With a record of 21 victories and one loss, Pascal is still one of the worldʼs best super middleweights. Letʼs face it, Pascal fought well and was able to score some damaging left hooks and solid rights over the low left hand of Froch.
Pascal had never faced a fighter who threw the kind of hard and accurate punches that Froch is known for. Pascal took the sort of punches that would surely have finished off most fighters, but he kept coming back, fighting until the bitter end. More...

On Saturday night at a packed Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, England, Hennessy Sports promoted a fight night headlined by the vacant WBC Super Middleweight title clash between Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch and Canadian Jean Pascal.
Pascal entered the ring surrounded by his entourage holding his five belts aloft. Then “We will, We Will Rock You” rang out around the noisy arena as Froch began his entrance to the ring and a waiting Pascal.
The atmosphere in the arena was fantastic! As the bell signalled the start of the fight - the crowds erupt as Froch gets straight to work on Pascal.
“Nottingham, Nottingham, Nottingham!”, the crowds sing as Froch gets off to a great start. Pascal is tentative as he nicks little shots in the first half of the round - blocking two big hooks and then stands - almost smirking at Froch as if to say ‘if that’s all you’ve got - this’ll be easy!’ More...

Last night, at the Nottingham Trent Arena in England, on a Hennessy Sports promoted fight night - Carl ʽThe Cobraʼ Froch won the WBC Super Middleweight title by unanimous points decision, defeating Canadian Jean Pascal in what was a ʽfantasticʼ twelve rounds of boxing.
The first few rounds sees Froch ʽfeel the forceʼ of Pascalʼs speed and strength, but he kept focussed against the counter-punching Montreal man, whipping out the jab to win the title on scores of 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110.
There was a total of four ʽtitleʼ bouts last night which also included a 10 round light heavyweight English title clash between local man Rod Anderton and Norwich boxer Danny McIntosh. But it was a short nightʼs work for McIntosh, who floored Anderton inside the first half of round one. More...

Yesterday at the Victoria Shopping Centre in Nottingham, England, Hennessy Sports hosted the official weigh-in for tonight's fight night which headlines the clash between local man Carl 'The Cobra' Froch and Canadian Jean Pascal for the WBC Super Middleweight title.
The upper floor balconies of the shopping mall were lined with supporters cheering on their home boy. Froch was quiet and stony faced as he stepped up to the scales, weighing in at 11 stone 12 lb and 9 ounces/166.5 pounds.
Montreal based Pascal looked more relaxed and enjoyed 'winding' the crowd up. He weighed in at 11 stone 13 lb and 10 ounces/167.75 pounds. More...
