Boxing In Europe: Huck, Monshipuor Victorious On The Continent

By Ricky Jones January 25th, 2009 All Boxing Results

European Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck continued to crush the opposition as the heavy-handed 24 year old spent his Saturday night handling the challenge posed by Belgium's undefeated Geoffrey Battelo at Edrgas Arena in Riesa, Germany.

Battelo took the fight to Huck and wanted a close quarters brawl but the champion patiently kept his distance, scoring from behind a high guard whenever the challenger went off balance or out of position from missed punches.

Gradually, Huck chipped away at the Belgian's resolve until open warfare broke out in the third and Battelo was dropped hard by a Huck uppercut.

The big-hearted challenger beat the count but was in no condition to defend himself adequately from Huck's followup assault and the action was called off at 2:57 of the round. More...

Boxing In Germany: Huck Puts European Title At Risk Against Battelo

By Hermann Helmut January 24th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

A big show takes place tonight at the Erdgas Arena in Riesa with European Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck placing his belt on the line against hard punching Belgian Geoffrey Battelo in the headlining contest.

Huck, 23-1-1 (18), has been on a roll since dropping an IBF title challenge to Steve Cunningham in December, 2007, winning four straight including a European title winning effort against France's Jean Marc Montrose in September of last year.

The heavy-handed 24 year old from Bielefeld faces Liege based contender Battelo, 18-0 (15), who hasn't lost a bout since turning pro in May, 2005.

Batello has swept through the lower European ranks at cruiser with little difficulty, but he hasn't come close to meeting anyone of Huck's caliber and will definitely go into this title challenge as an underdog.

Unbeaten light middle Alexander Abraham, 23-0-1 (16), defends his EBU-EE crown for the first time when he squares off with 21 year old undefeated Serbian stylist Nikola Stevanovic, 16-0 (6).

IBF International Cruiserweight Champ Enad Licina, 15-1 (9), will look to improve upon his victory over America's Otis Griffin last time out when he faces the challenge of chinny Colombian KO artist Jose Luis Herrera, 16-4 (16).

ESPN Boxing: Friday Night Fight Results

By Daxx Kahn May 24th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Lincoln Rhode Islands, Twin River Event Center played host to ESPN2 Friday Night Fight’s card as promoter Jimmy Burchfield put on a quality night of boxing for fans not only in attendance but those viewing on television around the world.

The main event of the evening showcased undefeated Aaron “Awesome” Williams 17-1-1 (12) in his first outing as a main event status fighter when he faced hard punching dangerous Jose Luis Herrera 16-4 (16). Williams started out the fight impressively when he battered Herrera in round one sending him to the canvas for an eight count and while Jose survived the first, rounds two thru four continued on the same as Williams controlled the bout using superior skill to keep Herrera at bay.

In round five almost as if trying to set an example of what not to do after the words “Williams is keeping his hands too low and could get caught” poured out of analyst Teddy Atlas’ mouth, Herrera lands a right hand that stuns Williams pushing him back to the ropes, then after another onslaught of punches by Jose he dropped to the mat.

After beating the count and continuing on Williams moves away from any big shots Herrera might land to close the show by dropping down on his own to a knee. The referee led Williams to the corner for the doctors opinion who decided Williams was unable to continue on giving him his first career loss.

In a co-feature former Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada 14-1 (3) faced off against Moultrie “Jack Hammer” Witherspoon 14-2 (8). It was apparent from the opening bell that Witherspoon the 6’6” 34 year old out of Columbia South Carolina was out gunned and out classed. Moultrie who did not begin his pro career until he was 30yrs old ate left, right combinations followed by uppercuts in rounds one and two that had the referee closely debating on stopping the bout.
