Boxing Result: Bradley Stops Campbell To Retain WBO Crown

By Richard Eberline August 2nd, 2009 All Boxing Results

Timothy Bradley kept his WBO light welter title last night at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT after challenger Nate Campbell claimed he couldn't see after suffering a serious laceration above his left eye at the end of the third round.

The bout was entertaining during its short duration with Campbell looking to press the action and wear down the champion through a strategy of energy-sapping clinches, wrestling and short shots on the inside.

The much quicker Bradley wasn't playing along however, and threw punches in bunches, forcing Campbell to cover up and go defensive for much of the time. Seasoned vet Campbell made Bradley miss or largely nullified the effects of what did land by riding the shots but as each moment passed, the champion looked to be gaining more control of the bout.

The 25 year old champion was far more fluid in his movements than his 37 year old rival and the strength advantage enjoyed by the naturally larger Bradley also looked to be causing Campbell problems.

By the third, Bradley had Campbell on the ropes and was throwing all he had into the assaults. Near the end of the frame, an accidental clash of heads occurred shortly before Campbell backed away and motioned to the referee that he was cut just as the third round ended. More...

Boxing Preview: Timothy Bradley vs. Nate Campbell

By Richard Eberline August 1st, 2009 All Boxing Previews

© Tom Casino / Showtime Boxing

The big fight this weekend sees Nate Campbell stepping up to light welter tonight for a crack at Timothy Bradley's WBO belt at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, CA.

At 37 years of age, Campbell, 33-5-1 (25), has had a long and winding career with many ups and many downs. He comes into this bout after having won the two biggest fights of his career, a thrilling split decision over Juan Diaz for the IBF, WBO and WBA lightweight belts in March, 2008 and a hard fought majority decision against big punching Ali Funeka in February for what was to have been a lightweight title fight except Campbell couldn't make weight.

Having outgrown the 135 pound division, Campbell will try his hand at light welter and challenge Bradley, 24-0 (11), who won the WBC title in May, 2008, defended it against Edner Cherry before taking Kendall Holt's WBO strap by decision in April. More...

Hennessy Boxing: Witter Sets Sights On Khan Unification Clash

By Boxing Press July 29th, 2009 All Press Releases

Junior “The Hitter” Witter believes he can embarrass Amir Khan into a major world title unification bout should he return from the U.S. this weekend with his old WBC belt.

Witter will try to regain his junior welterweight world crown in California on Saturday night when he goes up against unbeaten American Devon Alexander. The Bradford native is confident that he can emerge victorious and line up a unification clash with recently crowned WBA champ Khan.

“I think I’m the last guy Khan wants to meet but it would be a natural unification fight for the U.K.” said Witter. “Ricky Hatton avoided me for long enough when he was world champ and I‘m sure Khan won’t want to get the same reputation but it would be a short nights work for me - I’d knock him out inside three rounds.” More...

Boxing Perspective: Should Ricky Hatton Hang Up The Gloves?

By Ricky Jones May 5th, 2009 All Boxing Articles

KO losses don't come any more devastating than the one Ricky Hatton suffered against Manny Pacquiao and the question must now be asked: should "The Hitman" retire or keep going?

There doesn't seem to be any point in a rematch given Pacquiao's thorough dismantling of the British bulldog, unlike the Filipino's clashes with Mexican greats Eric Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Barrera.

There seem to be three ways the Hatton camp can proceed from this point. Either pull the plug on a highly decorated 12 year pro career or continue to face world class opposition in America in search of more world titles or return to England and fight lesser opposition.

Retiring represents the least profitable option of course but Hatton's legacy, which saw Ricky only come up short against the two greatest fighters of his generation, would remain intact, something that could prove invaluable to any future career as a promoter or boxing commentator in the UK. Ringside Boxing Report: Albert Sosnowski vs. Danny Williams

By Jane Warburton November 11th, 2008 All Ringside Boxing

© Jane Warburton / Saddo Boxing

Saturday night at the famous York Hall, in Bethnal Green, London, Hennessy Promotions hosted a fight night which would headline the heavyweight clash between Danny Williams, of Brixton, London, and Albert Sosnowski of Brentwood, Essex.

British Champion Williams was scheduled to meet John McDermott in a rematch but McDermott pulled out with an injury a few weeks ago. Now Williams faced last-minute substitute, the Polish-born Sosnowski aka "The Dragon" in a non-title contest.

Round one gets off to a good start with Sosnowski looking surprisingly "nifty" for a heavyweight. Williams - the slower of the two - takes time to size-up his opponent. But keen to impress, Williams throws a big left rather too enthusiastically and it causes him to spin around on the spot.

In the first half minute of round two, Williams lands an uppercut and Sosnowski feels it. Backed up on the ropes, Williams increases the pressure and the Polish man hangs on. Williams is warned for punching back of head and the fight continues. The referee calls time while he reprimands Sosnowski's cornerman who, despite warnings, has continued to shout instruction to his charge in Polish. More...
