Boxing Result: Khan Defeats Kotelnik To Win WBA Belt

By Danny Wilson July 19th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Amir Khan moved up a weight class, challenged a far more experienced reigning champion and even defied his legion of critics to win the WBA light welterweight title last night at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

Khan got off to a fast start once the bell rang and the lanky Bolton youth used his height advantage to keep Kotelnik at bay.

It was clear from the start that Kotelnik had issues with the handspeed and fast footwork of Khan but the WBA titlist's biggest problem was that he wasn't near busy enough.

Largely walking slowly forward or remaining stationary with hands held high, Kotelnik picked off most of Khan's shots and combinations with his gloves but his own punch output was nowhere near what Khan was putting up. More...

British Boxing: Brook Defeats Ewell To Retain Welter Title

By Ricky Jones January 31st, 2009 All Boxing Results

Last night at the York Hall in London's Bethnal Green, British Welterweight Champion Kell Brook put on a dazzling display of skill over the course of stopping challenger Stuart Elwell in just two rounds.

Overmatched from the start, 31 year old southpaw Elwell caught a lot of leather from the champion over a short period of time and was pitched onto the canvas twice in the initial round.

The big hearted Walsall man beat the count on both occasions and managed to survive the round but it was just a matter of time before Brook blazed through Elwell's defenses in the second and the bout was called at 1:29 of the frame to put an end to the one way traffic.

22 year old phenom Brook goes to 19-0 (12), making his second defense of the British crown. The budding Sheffield star stands atop the 10 stone 7 rankings in Britain and could be headed for a unification clash with Commonwealth kingpin Craig Watson.

Elwell loses for the third time over his last four outings to fall to 12-4 (1).

British Boxing: Brook Retains British Title In Glasgow

By Ricky Jones November 15th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Last night at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland, British Welterweight Champion Kell Brook retained his belt for the first time with a crushing first round stoppage over former titlist Kevin McIntyre and Commonwealth Super Feather kingpin Ricky Burns stopped challenger Yakubu Amidu in the seventh.

30 year old McIntyre had ridden a three bout win streak into the contest including a pair over fellow Scot Kevin Anderson but against the fast handed 22 year old Brook, the Paisley Postman had no answers.

Brook, 18-0 (11), gave the local man a lashing, knocking McIntyre, 26-6 (8), down three times before the bout was stopped before the first round had run it's course.

Coatsbridge southpaw Ricky Burns, 25-2 (6), won his tenth in a row by stopping Ghanaian slugger Yakubu Amidu, 16-2-1 (16), to keep the Commonwealth Super Feather crown.

Ex-British Welter Champ Michael Jennings, 34-1 (16), stayed busy with an eight round points verdict against Jason Rushton, 18-7 (3), while promising light heavy Kenny Anderson, 9-0 (7), stopped veteran Hastings Rasani, 20-38-2 (16), in four.

Boxing In Britain: Kell Brook Wins British Welterweight Title In London

By Ricky Jones June 15th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Highly touted Sheffield stylist Kell Brook, 17-0 (10), won the biggest fight of his career last night by stopping Welsh southpaw Barrie Jones, 15-2 (7), in the seventh round to win the vacant British Welterweight title at London's historic York Hall.

22 year old Brook has been dazzling audiences since turning pro four years ago and last night was no exception as he erased the height advantage of Jones with speed of hand and foot.

Jones had few answers for the quick handed Brook and by the seventh round, the Rhondda man could no longer adequately defend himself, forcing referee Micky Vann to stop the one way traffic in the seventh.

Also on the bill, another cagey boxer was in form as Anthony Small, 19-1 (13), retained his British Southern Area Light Middleweight strap by polishing off opponent George Katsimpas, 6-2 (5), in the eighth.
