We now live in a world where perception is much more powerful than reality. We see it in the political arena where spin doctoring by those in office and bias driven reporting by the media often colors public opinion more than actual facts…if we can still ascertain actual facts in that arena.
In America, many years ago there was a television police drama called Dragnet. In just about every episode the chief investigator Sgt. Joe Friday would interrupt a meandering witness by saying to them, “Just the facts.” Anyone who is truly involved with the sport of boxing, as a fan, a person who covers it, or someone working in the industry, would probably like to scream that Sgt. Friday phrase at the top of their lungs, to try and make some people actually care about the facts. More...

KO losses don't come any more devastating than the one Ricky Hatton suffered against Manny Pacquiao and the question must now be asked: should "The Hitman" retire or keep going?
There doesn't seem to be any point in a rematch given Pacquiao's thorough dismantling of the British bulldog, unlike the Filipino's clashes with Mexican greats Eric Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Barrera.
There seem to be three ways the Hatton camp can proceed from this point. Either pull the plug on a highly decorated 12 year pro career or continue to face world class opposition in America in search of more world titles or return to England and fight lesser opposition.
Retiring represents the least profitable option of course but Hatton's legacy, which saw Ricky only come up short against the two greatest fighters of his generation, would remain intact, something that could prove invaluable to any future career as a promoter or boxing commentator in the UK. The Great White North sees a good evening of boxing with two shows tonight in Montreal, with the primary focus on the light welterweight unification clash between WBC Champion Timothy Bradley and WBO Champion Kendall Holt at the Bell Centre.
Bradley, 23-0 (11), is the favorite in this one but given the mercurial nature of Holt, 25-2 (13), it could go either way before the dust finally settles.
Of the two combatants, Holt has faced the better competition in the form of Ricardo Torres, David Diaz, Isaac Hlatswayo, Mike Arnaoutis, Demetrious Hopkins and Ben Tackie.
But Holt struggled against a well past his prime Tackie and looked to be on the verge of getting KO'd in the first round by Torres in their rematch before an accidental clash of heads knocked Torres senseless, enabling Holt to finish the job moments later.
As an undefeated fighter, Bradley has been the more successful but the Californian also hasn't faced top level opponents aside from his WBC title winning effort against Junior Witter. More...

Last night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, WBO Light Welterweight Champion Kendall Holt swept back the challenge posed by late replacement opponent Demetrius Hopkins, posting a split decision victory in a bout that went the distance.
Holt negated the height and reach advantage of his previously undefeated challenger by slipping the jab and getting on the inside to go to the body but was helped along more often than not by the inactivity of Hopkins.
While the Philadelphia based nephew of former world middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins was generally kept from forming a cohesive offense by the constant movement and footwork of the champion, he also didn't throw enough punches when the opportunities to do so arose and was outworked by Holt. Tonight, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City hosts a WBO Light Welter title showdown between champ Kendall Holt and challenger Demetrius Hopkins in what should be a good, competitive battle.
Holt, 24-2 (13), was due to face Ricardo Torres in a third bout but the Colombian bomber was forced to pull out with an injury and in stepped former USBA titlist Hopkins, 28-0-1 (11).
The New Jersey based champion has always been a mercurial boxers, as wins over Mike Arnaoutis and Isaac Hlatshwayo but tough fights against Ben Tackie and Vladimir Khodokovski attest to. More...
