By Hermann Helmut April 26th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Last night on a fight card at Konig Palast in Krefeld, Germany, Felix Sturm and Karoly Balzsay retained their world title belts by stoppage.

As expected, WBA Middleweight Champ Sturm, 32-2-1 (14), wasn't pushed hard by his inexperienced challenger, Japan's Koji Sato, 14-1 (13), and was able to control the bout with his superb jab.

By the seventh round, Sato, the reigning OPBF titlist, was cut over both eyes and the clash was stopped by his corner at 2:46 of the frame.

WBO Super Middle Champ Balzsay, 21-0 (15), faced a far more seasoned foe, ex-WBA Middle beltholder Maselino Masoe, 29-6 (27). More...

By Hermann Helmut April 25th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

Tonight, the big action in Germany takes place at Konig Palast in Krefeld as WBA Middleweight Champion Felix Sturm and WBO Super Middle Champion Karoly Balzsay return to the ring.

Sturm, 31-2-1 (13), is looking to make the sixth successful defense of his belt when he meets Japan's Koji Sato, 14-0 (13).

28 year old Tokyo man Sato has KO'd all but one of his opponents to date but the reigning OPBF king has yet to face anyone near Sturm's ability.

Sturm should win this one but will have to be at his jab and move best to keep big punching Sato from connecting with anything significant over the course of all 12 rounds. More...

Boxing In Asia: Weekend Results

By Danny Wilson January 5th, 2009 All Boxing Results

The only genuine action this past weekend took place in Asia and we crack open the first results report of 2009 with a quick trip to the Pacifico in Yokahama, Japan where there were two world title fights on Saturday night.

Yusuke Kobori put his WBA Lightweight crown at risk for the first time since winning the belt with a third round stoppage of Jose Alfaro in May, but the Tokyo man wasn't ready for what challenger Paulus Moses brought to the table.

The 30 year old Namibian earned his stripes by winning the WBA Pan African and Intercontinental titles in 2006 but truly earned his "Hitman" nickname on Saturday by generally beating the champion to the punch over twelve tough rounds.

When the dust had settled, Moses took the WBA title by scores of 119-109 and 115-113 twice, keeping his perfect record intact to climb to 24-0 (17).

Former Japanese and OPBF Super Feather kingpin Kobori saw a 15 fight no loss streak go up in flames and the 27 year old sees his record drop to 23-3-1 (12).

In other action on the bill, another Tokyo resident fared better as Toshiaki Nishioka saw his status as WBC Interim Super Bantam Champ improve to the full WBC Champion with a dramatic 12th and final round stoppage of Mexico's Genaro Garcia. More...
