Boxing In Australasia: Weekend Results

By Bruce Dingo February 22nd, 2009 All Boxing Results

Big weekend in Oz with a good card in both The Philippines and Japan but we kick things off Down Under on Saturday night at Fonterra Echuca Sports and Entertainment Centre in Echua, Victoria.

One of Australia's top light welters, Lance Gostelow, 18-2 (14), roared back from defeat to former PABA Lightweight kingpin Somachai Nakbalee, 12-7-1 (5), of Thailand last October to win the rematch on points after ten hard fought rounds of combat.

Melbourne based Gostelow recaptured the WBO Oriental crown and could be in line for a high profile domestic dustup against the likes of Aussie Champ Chris McCullen or Brisbane veteran Mick "Pony" Shaw.

The chief support bout saw local heavyweight prospect Justin Whitehead, 2-0 (1), win the WBF Asia Pacific belt from Melbourne puncher Kim Heta, 8-3 (6), via ten round decision. Neither fighter had gone more than six rounds previously. More...

Boxing In Asia: Australian, Philipine, Indonesian Results

By Boxing Press July 20th, 2008 All Boxing Results

It was a good Saturday night across Asia and we'll kick things off Down Under in Melbourne, Australia where there was a superb bill at The Peninsula.

PABA Light Heavyweight Champ Daniel "Porky" Lovett, 17-3 (10), was in action in a non-title affair with former Australian titlist Jamie Guy, 9-9-1 (7) that went the distance.

After ten rounds of combat, Lovett emerged the winner via scores of 100-89, 99-91 and 98-92 to win his third straight contest since losing the IBF Pan Pacific Super Middle crown to Nader Hamdan.

Big punching light welter Lance Gostelow, 16-1 (13), led the way on the undercard, belting out ex-WBC Asian Boxing Council titlist Sataporn Singwancha, 17-6-1 (10), of Thailand, at 2:09 of the second round.

Another Thai import took it on the chin as current Australian Super Middle titlist Les Sherrington, 20-5 (13), crushed Bangkok slugger Plaisakda Singwancha, 35-16 (29), at 1:58 of the first frame of a six round non-title bout.

Australian Light Middle kingpin Frank LoPorto, 9-3-2 (5), rounded out the bill by stopping Indonesia's Hendrik Aritonang, 2-13 (1), in the second.

Saturday also featured a big card at Cebu Coliseum in Cebu City, Philippines, where Ciso Morales, Bert Batawang and Ranee Ganoy all entered the winner's circle. More...
