“Lightning” Smith Stops Arcos In Vegas, Added To Fallon Fight Card

Super-featherweight “El Negro Mexicano”, “Lightning” Lonnie Smith improves to 14-2-2, 10 KOs via a 3rd round TKO victory over the game Eduardo Arcos (16-4-1, 13 KO's) on Friday night at the South Point Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas.

Once again, the always exciting Smith, gave the fans in attendance and those watching on television, a non-stop, action fight. After a close first round where both fighters traded shots, “Lightning Lonnie” began to land a series of uppercuts. WBA Beltholder Shumenov Halts Santiago In Las Vegas

WBA/IBA Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov unloaded a 23-punch explosion on three-time world title challenger Danny “The Bronx Bomber” Santiago in the ninth round, when the fight was stopped by referee Tony Weeks, in lastmain night's event that aired live on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” from South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I didn’t count the punches,” Shumenov said after the fight, “but I could have thrown more."

Shumenov (12-1, 8 KOs) systematically broke-down a game Santiago (31-5-1, 19 KOs), WBA No. 15, using his jab and going to the body in the early rounds. “It definitely wasn’t like I expected,” Shumenov commented about the start of his third successful title fight.

“He specifically prepared for my style. I knew he was tough but not that tough. He’s durable and can take good punches. I developed a blister on my right foot in the third round that made it hard for me to maneuver. I couldn’t put my combinations together because I was uncomfortable.” More...


Chargin Helping Shumenov Promote “Fire & Fury” Fight Card

WBA/IBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov and Hall of Fame promoter Don Chargin have joined forces to promote Friday night’s “Fire& Fury” championship boxing card South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 12-round main event features Shumenov defending both belts against challenger Danny “The Bronx Bomber” Santiago (31-4-1, 19 KOs), who was featured on the third season of The Contender reality television series, live on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.”

“Don is an honest, trustworthy person who just happens to be a Hall of Fame promoter,” Shumenov said. “He has years of invaluable experience and an abundance of boxing knowledge. He really knows the ins and outs of the boxing business, in addition to having a keen eye for talented boxers, as well as knowing how to make interesting, competitive and entertaining match-ups.

Super Feather Prospect Smith Meets Vargas July 29

Coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Oxnard’s “Dangerous” David Rodella in April, Smith looks to advance his career by facing California’s Robert Vargas (5-1). This will be “Lightning Lonnie’s” second televised fight in a row.
