‘Luna Park’

One of the world's top super flyweights returned to the ring last night as busy WBO king Omar Andres Narvaez tangled with Colombian challenger William Urina at Buenos Aires' legendary boxing venue Estadio Luna Park.

The taller Urina, a late replacement opponent, wasted no time in getting to the point as he took the fight to the champion over the first two frames in the all-southpaw clash but Narvaez's greater ability kept the challenger from getting out ahead. More...

WBO super fly kingpin Omar Andres Narvaez returns to action tonight at the famed Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Narvaez, 34-0-2 (19), will be looking to retain the 115 pound crown for the third time after he graduated from a seven year reign as WBO flyweight champion.

The 35 year old Cordoba based southpaw will face the challenge of a much younger rival, Colombian slugger William Urina, 17-1 (14).

The 25 year old from Barranquilla is coming off a loss to Johnny Garcia for the WBC Fecarbox strap in January, in which both men had to climb off the canvas before Garcia won a decision and Urina's WBO Latino title.

Urina has vowed to bounce back however and believes he has the punch to bother the champion, who is coming off a successful points defense in April against previously undefeated Cesar Seda. More...

Argentina's top boxer had his hands full last night as Marcos Rene Maidana emerged victorious from a fierce firefight with American veteran DeMarcus Corley at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires.

The former WBO champ gave Maidana trouble in the opening frame with his faster-handed southpaw stance and by the second was trading bombs with the Interim WBA light welter titlist.

Corley, at 36 ten years Maidana's senior, was rocked several times as the bout went into the middle frames but still was giving the Argentine icon fits with snapping left hand leads and hard right hooks.

But as the rounds wore on Corley was increasingly on the receiving end of Maidana's big punches and had to climb off the canvas at one point.

Maidana could not finish the job however and by the championship rounds the local hero was a spent force. Corley surged forth and belted Maidana around, hurting the champion but could not close the show. More...

Tonight, Buenos Aires' famed Luna Park Stadium hosts an Interim WBA light welter championship bout between Marcos Rene Maidana and DeMarcus Corley.

Titlist Maidana, 28-1 (27), puts his strap at risk for the third time and the Jose Leon Suarez resident will enjoy a massive hometown advantage over the visiting American veteran.

An even bigger edge for the Argentine body puncher will be the reduced abilities of southpaw Corley, 37-13-1 (22), who is at least six years past his prime and has become a bit of an opponent these days.

However, the 36 year old ex-WBO champ Corely has faced the far greater opposition during the course of his 14 year career in the form of Floyd Mayweather Jr, Zab Judah, Miguel Cotto, Devon Alexander, Junior Witter and Randall Bailey when those boxers were in their prime. More...
