‘Malcolm Klassen’
By Gary Shaw Productions May 21st, 2013 All Boxing Previews
In the face of adversity, 'Wild' Will Tomlinson (21-0-1, 12 KOs) overcame a brave performance from Malcolm 'Stone' Klassen (27-6-2, 14 KOs) to retain his IBO super-featherweight title via a controversial unanimous points decision in an enthralling battle of wills at The Melbourne Pavilion overnight.
All three judges looked favorably towards the defending champion for his controlled aggression and punch output, distributing disputed verdicts of 117-110 and 118-109 twice in Tomlinson's favour. More...

Big show tonight at Carnival City in Brakpan as the much awaited rematch between super feathers Mzonke Fana and Cassius Baloyi headlines with a red hot clash at flyweight between Moruti Mthalane and Zolane Tete as chief support; both contests are for IBF titles.
Fana, 29-4 (12), and Baloyi, 37-4-1 (19), first went at in 2008 with Fana losing his IBF super feather crown via majority decision after 12 very tough rounds.
Baloyi's reign only lasted over one defense however, as he was halted by Malcolm Klassen last year. Both Fana and Baloyi won IBF title eliminators last year with Fana finishing off Jasper Seroka in six and Baloyi outpointing Roberto David Arrieta. More...

Last night at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX, light welterweights Juan Diaz and Paulie Malignaggi engaged in a spirited give and take contest that went all 12 scheduled rounds for the NABO title.
Former IBF titlist Malignaggi had managed to keep the fight largely on the outside for at least half the contest, where he could keep the shorter Diaz at bay and subject to jabs and right hands.
The New Yorker also kept the pace of the bout slower than what Diaz would have liked through the use of accurate countering skills and good footwork.
Diaz did break through Malignaggi's perimeter defense many times and the ex-world lightweight champion won most of the exchanges on the inside with his superb body-work and short hooks and uppercuts. More...

Headlining a big show tonight at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX is former lightweight champion Juan Diaz's move up to light welter to face Paulie Malignaggi in a 12 rounder.
Diaz, 34-2 (17), barely broke the lightweight limit during the weigh-in yesterday and former IBF 140 pound titlist Malignaggi, 26-2 (5), hit the scales at his lightest weight since 2002.
Both fighters have only two losses and both came against top competition; Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton for Malignaggi and Juan Manuel Marquez and Nate Campbell for Diaz. More...

IBF super feather champion Malcolm Klassen will defend his crown against former IBF featherweight titlist Robert Guerrero on August 1 at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas.
Klassen, 24-4-2 (15), is a two time beltholder of the IBF strap, most recently winning the honor by putting the first stoppage on domestic South African rival Cassius Baloyi's resume in April.
The Toekomsrus, Gauteng native has only lost once over the last seven years, an IBF title defense against Mzonke Fana two years ago.
Southpaw Guerrero, 24-1-1 (17), of California has eight wins and two no contests in his last ten bouts, four of which were victories with the IBF feather trophy at stake, since losing to Gamaliel Diaz three years ago.

On Saturday night at North-West University Sports Complex in Mafikeng, South Africa, Malcolm Klassen regained his IBF Super Feather title with a seventh round stoppage of top rival Cassius Baloyi.
No one could have predicted the dominant performance that Klassen, 24-4-2 (15), produced as the former titlist had Baloyi's number the minute the bell rang to begin the first round.
Klassen simply drove through the distance that the much taller Baloyi had hoped to maintain throughout the scheduled 12 round contest and had the reigning champion in very deep trouble as early as the first frame. More...

The biggest fight thus far this year in South Africa takes place tonight at North-West University Sports Complex in Mafikeng when IBF Super Feather Champ Cassius Baloyi faces the challenge of Malcolm Klassen.
Baloyi, 36-3-1 (19), and Klassen, 23-4-2 (14), are the top two super feathers in the country and fans across South Africa have been waiting for the clash of these two for a very long time.
34 year old Baloyi has participated in many title fights during his reigns as IBO and IBF super feather, WBU feather and super bantam champion.
The Johannesburg resident holds victories over Manuel Medina, Mzonke Fana, Lehlohonolo Ledwaba (twice), Mbulelo Botile, Gairy St. Clair and Frankie Toldeo while he's come up short only against St. Clair, Isaac Hlatshwayo and Phillip N'dou.
Baloyi captured the IBF crown for the second time in his career when he posted a majority decision against reigning champion Fana a year ago and made a successful defense by stopping Argentina's Javier Osvaldo Alvarez in the third round last September. More...
