On Friday night at the Velodrome in Manchester, England, Hatton Promotions hosted their first televised fight-night. Billed as ‘Euro Glory’, the fight-card was headlined by the European title clash between Matthew Macklin and Amin Asikainen.
Matthew Macklin (Birmingham) v Amin Asikainen (Finland)
12 x 3 Vacant European Middleweight Contest
It was a very ‘stiff’ Asikainen that came out to face Macklin. Macklin looks focussed - switching between head and body shots - before landing a huge left hook which lands bang-on the face of the Finnish man and he falls back heavily on the canvas in the first round.
Struggling to get up for the count - Asikainen looks unsteady but continues with the fight. Looking dazed - he tries to get away from Macklin but the Brummie goes after him! Seconds later, Asikainen is almost bundled over and it’s a no-knockdown. More...

Last night at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent, England, Frank Maloney and Impact Boxing hosted a fight night which saw local boxer Chris Edwards face Grimsby’s Wayne Bloy for the British and Commonwealth Flyweight titles.
Bloy had plenty of support from the Grimsby fans who’d made the trip while experienced Edwards was looking to become a double-weight champion having moved down from super flyweight.
Edwards goes out ‘all guns blazing’ as the bell sounds the start of round one. Exploding like a ‘bottle of pop’, he goes after Bloy and it's difficult for the ringside photographers to keep up with the two men as they nip around the canvas on fast feet!
Edwards throws various shots - both to head and body - driving forward to back up Bloy. Mid-way through the first frame, the Grimsby man is already under pressure and stumbles backward as Edwards lands a big right hook to the face. More...

Ian ‘Dappa’ Napa had his toughest test yet last night when he challenged big-punching Belgian Carmelo Ballone for the European Bantamweight title at the famous York Hall, Bethnal Green, in the East End of London.
The likable Hackney lad entered the ring wearing his usual dark shades and with a female entourage holding his British title belt aloft. The ‘Belgian Butcher’ Ballone had plenty of support from his own fans who’d made the trip to London. Loud horns were blasting out around the York Hall as he stepped coolly into the ring.
Ballone, the taller of the two having a long-reaching southpaw stance, had the better start - with Napa adopting his usual tight, stiff, defence and being more cautious as he settles in. More...

Tomorrow night, Saturday, April, 26, Steve Woods of VIP Boxing is staging what's sure to be another action-packed night of boxing at the Robin Park, Wigan, England.
The main event sees Lancashire boxer, Mark Thompson, face Polish man Maurycy Gojko in a ten round welterweight contest. But also on the bill, popular Blackpool light middleweight Brian Rose is looking for a good win this time, having earned a draw in his most recent outing against Manocha Salari.
Trainer Bobby Rimmer spoke to SaddoBoxing this morning and confirmed that after a last minute substitute, Rose is now fighting 'Gypsy Boy' - Ernie Smith of the Midlands, who was originally scheduled to fight Alex Matvienko on the same bill.
'Brian is absolutely fantastic!' Rimmer enthused, 'he's feeling very confident and, as usual, training has gone absolutely great!'
