Friday night, at the Velodrome in Manchester, England, Hatton Promotions hosted a fight night which would prove to be an all-action bill culminating in another war from returning Mancunian, Michael Brodie.

Billed as ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, the fight card consisted of seven contests. Encircled by the indoor cycling track, the ring looked impressive with its lighting ‘rig’ and plasma screens.

The main and last fight of the night was well worth the wait! After a break of four years, former featherweight champion Michael Brodie made his come-back last night in spectacular style.

Who could forget the Brodie v. Injin Chi WBA title fights in 2003 and 2004? Last night's fight was in true Brodie-style - another bloody war. More...

Boxing In Britain: Friday Night Results

By Ricky Jones August 22nd, 2009 All Boxing Results

There were two fight cards in the UK last night with former world champions Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe as promoters.

Hatton's bill took place at the Velodrome in his hometown of Manchester and featured a brace of six and four rounders.

The big name on the bill was that of ex-European, Commonwealth and British super bantam champion Michael Brodie, 35-3-2 (23), who had been out of the ring since losing a WBO

Returning as a super feather, the 35 year old local hero felt the ring rust acutely as he was dropped by opponent Mark Alexander, 8-4 (0), of London in the first and third frames before finding his rhythm to stop Alexander at 1:25 of the fourth after landing a perfect right hand. More...

Last night at Crowtree Leisure Centre in Sunderland, England, Frank Maloney hosted a fight night which would feature three title fights and one title eliminator.

The event - billed as ‘Fighting on Home Soil’ was headlined by Jamie Moore, Rendall Munroe and Danny Williams. There would also be a British Light Middleweight title eliminator between Sam Webb and Thomas McDonagh, and Tony Jeffries would fight in front of a home-crowd as he took on German boxer Roy Meissner.

With a total of eleven contests, last night would prove to be an exciting-all action evening - not least because it would provide the lead-up for Sky Sports viewers to the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas.

It might not have been the MGM Grand - but the 1600 fans crammed into the Sunderland venue were looking forward to a great night of boxing - and they weren’t disappointed! More...

There were two other ʽtitleʼ fights on Saturday night at the Brentwood Centre, Essex, as Brian Magee faced Stevie McGuire for the vacant British Super Middleweight belt and Lee Purdy met Peter McDonagh for the British Southern Area Light Welterweight crown.

Irish-born ʽConnemara Kidʼ McDonough - now residing in Bermondsey, London, has a 12-13 (2) record coming into the bout while his younger opponent, Lee ʽLights Outʼ Purdy, hails from Colchester and is undefeated - boasting an 8-0-1 (5) CV.

In round one, McDonagh circles his opponent, whipping out the left straight while Purdy looks on, seemingly waiting to counter with a big punch. McDonagh is accurate as he picks away at the face of Purdy - while the Colchester man is a little off-target, but starts to settle in towards the latter half of the first frame. More...

Boxing Info: Stevie McGuire - Brian Magee

By Boxing Press December 10th, 2008 All Press Releases

Stevie McGuire believes Brian Magee is ready for the taking in Saturday’s Vacant British Super-Middleweight Title showdown at the Brentwood Centre.

McGuire (Glenrothes, Scotland) might be the underdog for the fight against Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) but he is not lacking confidence after a two-week training camp in Cyprus to get ready for the biggest fight of his life.

Magee will be trying to become British champion at the third attempt after being stopped for the same belt by new WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch in 2006 and then held to a controversial draw with Tony Oakey for the British light-heavyweight belt last year.

But McGuire is confident of improving his 15-fight unbeaten record on the Hennessy Sports show that will be shown live on ITV4 from 8.40pm. More...

First Team's PJ Rowson and Errol Johnson put on another entertaining afternoon of boxing on Sunday when they hosted a full card of eight contests, billed as "Crunch-time at Lunch-time", which included two title bouts at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, England.

Dean "Deano" Harrison of Wolverhampton faced Chris Long of Calne, Wiltshire, for the vacant British Masters Welterweight title. A win could ensure a re-match with Scott Haywood, the Derby Boxer who narrowly out pointed Harrison for the English Light Welterweight title in September. Long fought Harrison's stablemate Steve Saville last time out, losing on points to the Bomber.

Harrison used straight lefts to head and left hooks to the body of Long and although Long put up a good effort against the Wolverhampton man, he was forced to retire at the end of the eighth round with a shoulder injury.

Harrison wins the title and his record now stands at 13-1 (4). More...
