Friday night at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, Matchroom Sports presented an all-action fight card headlined by the British Bantamweight title clash between St. Helens boxer Gary Davies and Matthew Edmonds of Newport, Wales.

Davies gets straight to work in the opening minute of the first round - keeping busy, but staying calm.He makes full use of long-reaching shots with a four inch reach advantage over his Welsh opponent.

Round two sees Edmonds start to settle in - landing the right jab to the face of Davies, who looks undeterred. At the end of the round - Davies gives a satisfied nod as he walks confidently back to his corner.

In round three, Edmonds lands a notable left to the face of Davies, who must have ‘felt’ it, but looks unfazed. It’s a better round for Edmonds. More...

SaddoBoxing went along to see St. Helens boxer Gary Davies yesterday as he makes his last minute preparations before Friday night's clash against Matthew Edmonds for the British Bantamweight title.

Pulling up to the Leisure Centre off the Warrington Road in Prescot, England, I looked around at the 5-aside football taking place and the ladies hockey team arriving to play on the outside pitches and mused that you’d never imagine there was a title contender working away inside the ‘tucked away’ boxing gym.

Trainer Peter McCormick, greeted me at the doorway of the gym where many young men were busy training. Pointing me in the direction of Davies, I wandered over to the treadmill where he was already clocking up some miles. More...

Friday night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England Frank Maloney promoted a fight night which was headlined by the clash between Jamie Moore and Michele Piccirillo, as they fought for the vacant European Light Middleweight title. Salford man Moore won the title on a third round TKO over Italian Piccirillo.

But there was some great undercard action which also saw the second fight from Irish Bronze Olympic Medallist Darren Sutherland as he took on Belarusian Siarhei Navarka in a six round super middleweight contest.

In the opening half of the round, Sutherland lands a number of head punches which sees Navarkaʼs face already reddened from the blows. Keeping up the pace, ʽDazʼ whips out the left and straight rights and though Navarka keeps his gloves up and head down, Sutherlands punches get through.

Round two and Sutherland stays busy, continuing to use the jab which rocks back the head of the Belarusian with some regularity now. More...

Boxing In Wales: Jamie Arthur Wins Welsh Title Fight

By Ricky Jones July 13th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Last night at the Newport Centre in Newport, Wales, Jamie Arthur completed the first step of his comeback with a second round KO of Dai Davies to win the British Welsh Area Super Featherweight title in thrilling fashion.

A star of the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Arthur had fallen on hard times after suffering stoppage losses to Haider Ali and Harry Ramogoadi in 2005 and promptly sat out of the ring for nearly three years before returning this past April to outpoint inexperienced Ghanian, Ayittey Mettle, over six rounds.

The 28 year old from Cwmbran had vowed to lift Davies' Welsh title and once the bell rang for the contest last night at Newport Centre, he quickly went about doing exactly that.

Arthur just had too much speed, too much guile, too much height, and too much power as well, as he knocked out Davies at 1:31 of the second frame of their scheduled ten rounder. More...

British Boxing: Welsh Warriors Weigh-In Today In Newport

By Ricky Jones July 11th, 2008 All Boxing Previews

In anticipation of their Saturday night bout for the Welsh Super Featherweight title at Newport Centre in Newport, Wales, rivals Dai Davies and Jamie Arthur will come face to face today for the official weigh-in to the Jamie Sanigar promoted fight card.

Reigning champion Davies, 5-9-1 (0), has faced some of the best at feather and super feather such as Jason Booth, Rendall Munroe, Derry Matthews, Akaash Bhatia and Matthew Marsh, resulting in a humble won-lost record but also great ring experience.

Arthur, 10-2 (3), of Cwmbran, will be taking part in his second bout since returning from a two and a half year layoff and the 28 year old will be looking to reclaim past amateur glories that saw him claim a Gold Medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. More...

Sanigar Boxing: Davies vs. Arthur For Welsh Title July 12 In Newport

By Boxing Press June 27th, 2008 All Press Releases

Jamie Sanigar presents a night of boxing on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the Newport Centre in Newport, Wales as Dai Davies and Jamie Arthur clash for the Welsh Super Featherweight title, supported by a quality bill.

Davies won the Welsh title with a ten round points decision against Henry Jones in October, 2006 and is coming off a narrow one point loss at featherweight to Commonwealth Bantamweight Champion Jason Booth in a non-title fight just two weeks ago in Portsmouth.

Arthur, of Cwmbran, successfully returned from a nearly three year layoff this past April and has vowed to regain the promise he once held after a glittering amateur career but must first overcome the hurdle posed by the Merthyr Tydfill based Welsh Champion Davies.

On the undercard, former Commonwealth title challenger Matthew Edmonds of Newport faces unbeaten Prosper Ankrah of Ghana at bantamweight and Rob Turley of Cefn Forrest meets Syd Razak of Birmingham at featherweight. More...
