Brian Peters Boxing: Magnificent Seven Set For Summer Sizzler July 12 In Dublin

By Boxing Press May 9th, 2008 All Press Releases

The Best of the Fighting Irish are set to showcase their talents at Dublin’s National Stadium on July 12 on the next Hunky Dorys Fight Night. The Magnificent Seven of Bernard Dunne, Matthew Macklin, Andrew Murray, Oisin Fagan, Darren Corbett, Ian Tims and Keith Cresham will see action on what should prove a hot summers night of boxing at the National Stadium.

Dunne will headline the card in an International 10 round contest as he looks to take another step towards a world title shot. The Dubliner rebounded from last years European title defeat in Castlebar last month shedding the ring rust with a comprehensive win over former World Champion, Felix Machado. More…

Ricky Hatton KO’s TV Stars Ant and Dec

By Boxing Press March 26th, 2008 All Press Releases

Ricky Hatton delivered a knockout blow to Ant and Dec last weekend, snubbing the British TV stars for big pal Matthew Macklin.

The world light-welterweight champion was due to appear on their prime-time show ‘Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ which pulls in millions of television viewers.

But ‘The Hitman’ told the Geordie duo to count him out when he realised his scheduled ITV appearance clashed with Macklin’s fight against Yory Boy Campas in Dublin, Ireland. More…

Ringside Boxing Report: Matthew Macklin vs. Yory Boy Campas

By Allan Donnellan March 24th, 2008 All Ringside Boxing

In 1991, Dublin’s National Boxing Stadium hosted it’s first professional show, in which the legendary Steve Collins defeated Danny Morgan in three rounds. The Stadium has enjoyed an illustrious run since that December; fighters such as Jim Rock, the Hyland brothers, Bernard Dunne and recently, John Duddy, have all become Irish heroes through the exposure they have received applying their craft in the country’s premier boxing venue.

In Matthew Macklin, the stadium may well have found a new darling.

The timing of this card was perhaps unfortunate in that it coincided with Ireland’s Easter Holiday weekend. This fact ensured that the crowd never threatened to fill the National Stadium. However, promoter Brian Peters should have been pleased with the night, as the undersized, but warm, vocal crowd cheered the native fighters home in what was an supremely successful night for the Irish. Boxing In Ireland: Matthew Macklin Outpoints Yory Boy Campas

By Danny Wilson March 23rd, 2008 All Boxing Results

Popular middleweight Matthew Macklin took on the still dangerous former IBF Light Middleweight Champion Yory Boy Campas last night on a Brian Peters promotion at National Stadium in Dublin, Ireland and the 25 year old Birmingham man walked away with a well deserved unanimous decision after ten solid rounds of action.

Campas started the bout as he would finish it; surging forward. The 36 year old warhorse came at Macklin all night long and to his credit, the younger man largely avoided the kind of slugfest that Campas was looking for.

Macklin managed to box Campas and control the pace of the bout with the jab and stinging counters to both the head and body. Macklin shook Campas several times but never managed to truly hurt the former world champion, who for his part caught the local favorite with good overhand rights on occasion. More…
