Boxing Result: Audley Harrison Wins Prizefighter Heavyweights III

By Ricky Jones October 3rd, 2009 All Boxing Results

Audley Harrison managed to rub some of the tarnish off his career last night by winning Prizefighter Heavyweights III at London's Excel Arena.

As usual among this series of three round extravaganzas, there were upsets galore as the original lineup of eight fighters went to work in the opening quarterfinal stage.

In a real shocker, British champion Danny Williams was floored twice by massive but inexperienced Sheffield southpaw Carl Baker, who survived Williams' desperate third round barrage to record a 29-26, 29-26 and 28-27 win.

Another surprise saw undefeated Irishman Coleman Barrett post a narrow verdict over far more seasoned former British champ Scott Gammer of Wales via scores of 29-28 on all three cards. More...

The successful Prizefighter series continues tonight at London's Excel Arena when eight of the country's top heavyweights go head to head in an elimination tournament.

Amongst the eight attempting to bag the £32,000 prize fund are bitter rivals and former opponents Danny Williams and Audley Harrison.

Both men boast one win apiece over each other and should both men win their opening two bouts, they are scheduled to meet in the final.

The beauty of this tournament is that the matches are held over three consecutive three minute rounds. Seedings in tournaments like this tend to go out of the window, so one shouldn't be surprised if a lesser known fighter upsets the odds. More...

On Thursday night, PJ Rowson and Errol Johnson of First Team Promotions hosted their last ʽshowʼ of the season at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall in West Midlands, England.

Popular West Bromwich boxer Young Mutley, headlined the show but there was a full undercard which made for another entertaining night of boxing.

Martin Gordon (Dudley) vs. Chris Thompson (Leeds)
4 x 2 Welterweight Contest

Despite landing a number of straight lefts and, sometimes - wild swinging left shots - the Dudley man had a tough contest against the taller Thompson and it seemed fair that it ended in a draw. Boxing Gym Spotlight: Wednesbury Boxing Academy

By Jane Warburton July 3rd, 2008 All Boxing Articles

Arriving at the doorway of the Wednesbury Boxing Academy, I was still wondering why I hadn’t visited the gym before. I used to live locally, so Wednesbury is a place I’ve been to many times.

The front of the single-storied building looked fairly small - but afterward, I mused it was a bit like a ‘tardis’ because the gym - though not huge - stretched back to reveal a ‘comfortable’ workspace with several punch bags and a decent ‘ring’.

Just back from a holiday - a tanned Bob was enjoying some ‘banter’ with the lads as they power-skipped.

A trickle of boxers came through the door, each one getting straight to work on their training routine - some on the punch bags, others power-skipping. Bob and Errol revealed that they had around 47 professional boxers on their ‘books’ though they didn’t all train every session. More...
